PROBABLY CLEVELAND.
A wager of one thoutnnd dollars
was offered one day lost week by a
democrat 'that Grover Cleveland
would be the next nominee of the
democratic party for president.
While it is not possible to share the
• conviction of the man who made
.the wager, it is,nevertheless, a fact,
nnd a very patent tact too, that
Cleveland is today one of the strong
est men. in the party. The demo
cratic party, after persuing the
phantom shadow of free silver and
populism to its hearts content, has
come back to the old moorings^ and
is now ready to adopt the policies
for wlviclt Cleveland so manfully
stood while in the presidential chair
It must be a source of much grati
fication to him to see that his worth
und judgement is at last being ap
preciate^ by his party. We be-
iieve that with Grover Cleveland
as the standard barer "the demo-
crate party can come nearer electing
tlje next president- than with any
other man in it.
