The' blessings and best wishes of the people of Vienna go with them in their new life. The steady growth of Vienna is something to’be proud of. Unlike many cities, Vienna does not take grer.t spurts and then fall back ex hausted and fagged out, like a man who has overdone his strength, but she takes it steady and easy, but she gets there all the same. It is this character ot a town that gets there every time. A steitdy strong pull does not exhaust the resources of a town, but it husbands its strength and stays with it and Vienna will be a .growing town when other that towns take it by spurts have been long forgotten. I have not the large and laborious tasks which fall to thq lot of many congressmen who represent districts in which are located big cities. In my district there are no great cities, but we huve several, thriving and growing cities. “There are the trusts, of course, which our people want to see curbed to a great extent and I atn ready to lilt my voice and cast my vote in the balance against these evils of civilization. ‘ ‘But the matter in which I ffm most particularly interested is the currency question. We have enough currency afloat now* for ordinary uses, but what we need is an emergency safeguard. The committee , of which I have the honor to be a member is considering the currency'question and it may bring out a bill at this session so framed us to meet the demands of the country at large-. Causey, who has been with the Clegg Lumber Co.,, for some time, had misappropriated sev eral hundred dollars of the com pany’s money and skipped out to parts unknown. 'This incident was quite a sur prise, also to Mr. Causey’s frienda in Cordele, for they were all dum-. founded to know thnt he had acted as he did. It seems that Mr. S. C. Clegg, manager of the Clegg Lumber Co., had intrusted the collecting in Mr. Causey’s hands. In this way some shortages had been missed from time to time, but not until Weda ttesday did Mr. Clegg know where nd how much of his money had been missnppropriated. Wheri this wits disclosed Mr. Causey skipped out, leaving on a buggy for Rich- wood, where he boarded a train and the last heard from him he waft some where above Macon. Officers are close on his heels and it is thought that the fugative will soon be captured and made to answer to the crime.—Friday’s Daily News, Your Uncle 81 Tip was too busy with the stenographing work of the City court to get up his usual amount of rending matter this week, and therefore asks his readers to'overlook all short comings of his column. A balloon ascension and parachute leap was made in the city Thursday afternoon late nn*d was witnessed by large crowd of people. The balloon was allowed to continue in its upward flight until it seemed not much larger than a man and tho professor resemb led a small black speck against the blue sky. Waiting until he hod_gotten over the exact spot at which he wished to descend, the professor cut his para chute loose from, the balloon, and op ening out slowly and gracefully like a huge umbrella, the parachute descend ed majestically to earth. The ascension was for the purpose of advertising a show which was given at the opera honse Thursday night. Owing to the fact that the show had had no other advertisement, a very slim crowd was out to greet is. The people here are very wary about being roped in by snide combinations which awoop down on Vienna occasionally, and it ia a very difficult matter to deceive them into turning their money loose on fake combinations. Senator M01 gait has a scheme for' sending the negroes of the South jt> the Philipines and colonizing them there. By his untiring efforts he may succeed in interesting the ad ministration in his plan. But, the good Senator will, in ail probabili ty, have all his piins for nothing. Talk about getting a Southern negro to go anywhere? No street not he. He’s going to stick right here in the South, and continue to live off, and steal from the whitet people. Once in the Philippines, he would be compelled to think unci act for himself, and that is a task thi Southern negro is very averse to undertaking. A Cold Warn.
