John Bushin, who had accepted a
position with the News, was compelled
to return to his home at Montezuma
Sunday on account of sickness.
W. T. Adkins, of Brunswick, has ac
cepted a position with the News and
will arrive some time this week. He
has been holding a position with the
Brunswick Journal since last March.
With plenty of force the News will be
up to its usuoVstandard in a few days.

Hamilton, O., Oct. 2.—Tho physi
cians attending the Spivey brothers
who were wounded in the riot at Ox
ford last night and who wero brought
here to prevent lynching, report both
today In a serious condition.
Louis, who was shot by tbe citizens
while assisting the officers, Is In so
serious a condition that tbe physicians
cannot probe any further lor the bul
let.
Joseph Spivey, who may recover,
piesents a horrible appearance. Both
ears are torn and bis neck la raw
and swollen from the effects of the
rope, while bis face Is also disfigured.
His most serious injury Is a scalp
wound which was caused by being
bit by a stone.
Tbe Spivey brothera are natives of
WegnersTllle, Estill county.
They confess that they have been
in shooting scrapes before. One
served is the penitentiary at Frank
fort for shooting to JtllL Louis has
recently been working on a farm for

the last time Spivey was strung up
last night. Brannen then rushed
Spivey into the Oxford prison, from
which be afterwards brought him here
in safety. Deputy Brand •. who was
in charge at Oxford laat' night. Is
highly commended for his bravery and
