1UYEIT BOW OCCURRED
LIST FRIDAY AFTKRI001.
Tuesday's Cordele Daily Newa:
The Jnatice court room in this
city yesterday presented quite
• “courty” scene.
Under instructions of Mr. R. T.
George, bailiff Yeomans went out
in the country Friday afternoon
to make a levy on the crop of
Messrs T. J. and E. H. Hancock
for rent and supplies furnished.
Mr. George and Mr. Nelson
King came up about the time,
and their appearance on the scene
together with the bailiff’s inten
tion so enraged the Hancock’s that
one of them drew a pistol and
shot at Mr. King.
At this juncture a bloody scene
was looked for, but in a few min
utes the men qnited down, and
later on the men were arrested.
The case was held here before
Judge Smith yesterday, when one
of the Hancock’s was bonded over
to appear at superior court, while
Kiug was put under a small bond
to appear before the city court.
The affair is very much regretted
by all.

Midway is putting on new life
with this lovely autumn weather.
It is such a welcomed relief to the
intense hot summer. I can not
agree with the poet when he sings
‘It is the saddest of the year.’’
Our depdt since finished is quite
as pretty as any on the line, and
Mr. Page, the agent is now ready
to serve the public. I am glad.to
note that Midway is quite a ship
ping point for cotton, and no
doubt before another season, we
can boost of a warehouse.
The busy sound of the saw and
hammer will soon be heard again,
as Lilly Bros, are now having lum
ber hauled for their new store
building, having sold their former
one to Messis. Shirah and Dick
son.
Messrs. Brewer and Acre have
moved their saw mill from Mt.
Vernon near here which swells our
population considerably.
Dr. Stovall was called Sunday
to the bedside of Mrs. Hathaway,
who has an attact of fever which
we hope will prove nothing serious,
and sho will soon be up again.
We would be glad if some good
physician would make Midway his
home. While it is not a sickly
place, every community needs a
physician and no doubt one would
find it to their interest to open up
a little drug business here and
live among us. ,
Miss Annie Eliza Butler and
little nephew Osborne Royal have
returned to their homo near Mt.
Vernon after visiting relatives in
Wilcox county.
A. E. Walton of Vienna was in
Midway a short time Tuesday.
W. B. Mclnvalo and sons Gor
don and Eddie Lee of Mt. Vernon
made a business trip to Montezu
ma Saturday.
News is scarce, and guess this is
long enough for a novice anyway,
so will close with best wishes for
all tho scribes and the editor in
chief.

Jerry, Oct. 7—We have evidence
of being highly favored around
Jerry, as there is but little sick
ness now, and those that have
been sick have about recovered,
for which we feel very grateful.
Since the continued dry weather
the cotton fields of this section
have turned white with the fleecy
staple and will son all be opened,
picked out and marketed
We
forward to the time when we will
dig potatoes, make syrup and kill
hogs, which is the best time of
feasting we have.
We have a good trade market
now at Jerry. A. J. Sanders pays
the highest market price for eggs,
chickens and all country produce.
M.E. Brown spent Friday and
Saturday of last week in Cordele
on business and visiting relatives.
John W. Sanders has purchased
a bicycle and says he can now ride
independent to the horse and
buggy, but cannot carry his girl.
Dr. Mitchell filled his regular
appointment at Mars Hill church
Saturday and Sunday.' Preached
two very interesting and instruc
tive sermons. The interest and
attendance was very good, the
church was aroused to a sense of a
higher plane of christain living,
and to a greater mission spirit.
Rev. A. J. Sanders spent Tues
day in Mingo on- business.
D. H. Hendley accompanied by
J. F. Taylor returned home Mon
day from Ebenezer where they
attended the Primitive Baptist
Pulaski Association.
Mrs. E. S. Sanders and daugh
