TO EXTEND RAILROAD
THROUGH PULASKI COUNTY
Dublin, Ga., May 21.—It now looks
as if the Dublin and Southwestern
railroad will be expended from East
man to Cordele via Hawkinsvllle.
It is said that most advantageous
traffic arrangements have been made
with the Seaboard Air Line railroad
and that the terminals of the Sea
board at Cordele will be used. It Is
rumored also that the charter recent
ly granted to Hon. Pope Brown and
others for the construction of a rail
road from Hawkinsvllle to Cordele
has been turned over to the Dublin
and Southwestern railroad and will
be used between Hawkinsvllle and
Cordele.
For some days surveyors have been
at work locating a line of road be
tween Eastman and Hawkinsvllle.
The preliminary lines bavo been run
and this morning the work of locat
ing a permanent line will be begun.
The work is in charge of Civil Engi
neer J. P. Pughsley, who located the
line of the Dublin and Southwestern
between Dublin and Eastman.
To go via Hawkinsvllle to Cordele
lengthens the line somewhat, but it
is the opinion of those interested that
the increased dista. ce will be more
than bffsett by the advantage offered
by Hawkinsvllle being a point on the
line.
ALBANY IS AGAIN VISITED
BY SEVERE WIND STORM
Considerable Damage Done, Houses
Were Unroofed and Flooded
With Water.
Albany, Ga., May 21—A wind storm
whioh closely resembled a tornado.
Btruek Albany this afternoon, and a
great deal of damage was the result.
Several houses Were unroofed and
their interiors were flooded by the
terrific rain which accompanied the
blow. An inch and a half of rain fell
in about fifteen minutes.
The dwelling of Samuel Farkas,
one of the handsomest in the city,
was unroofed and flooded, and a large
chimney, whioh fell, crashed through
Judge D. F. Crossland’s two-story
dwelling. Hundreds of trees were
blown down, and telephone and elec
tric light wires suffered. It is re
ported that some of the farms were
hard hit by the high winds.
Only a short time ago ,-a simlliar
storm visited, this city and vicinity.
Vienna could easily secure this
railroad ifjjhe would only make an
effort. It will give' tbe promoters
the shortest route to connections with 1
the west and open up a fine territory.
It is a proposition that should' be
investigated by our people.

8R0THERS-IN-UW FOUND
DEAD AT COLQUITT, GA.
Colquitt, Ga., May 21.—Two broths
ers-in-law were found dead last night
about 9 o'clock just beyond Spring
Creek, about one mile west of town.
The alarm was given by a man who
was passing by. A crowd assembled
and found Joseph Jacobs and his
brother-in-law, Dave Murphey, about
100 yards apart, dead. Both are ne
groes. Dave was just off the gang.
The sheriff began to investigate the
tragedy and. with n coroner and a
jury, some very startling evidence is
being procured. But the outsiders
can get onto nothing. The tragedy,
although the victims are negroes, lias
wrought up the good citizens of this
community and county, who are
making every effort to find but who
the guilty ones are and, if they are
found, no doubt the law will be
speedily enforced.

BOLD ATTEMPT TO WRECK
PASSENGER TRAIN AT DESOTO.
Cohlele, Ga., May 21.—The Sea
board Air Line “shoo-fly” passenger
train, due here at 8:40. o’olock, came
near being wrecked a few miles this

Sonje unknown party attempted to
wreck the train by placing four cross
ties on the track, but, fortunately,
the train was not running at a very
fast speed, and the orosstles were
somewhat rotten. When the engine
hit them they only caused a consid

to apprehend the would-be wrecker,
