In organizing for military efficiency the United States government has in- stltuted the Wean’s Committee for the Council of National Defense. The purpose of this organisation is the coordination of all organised forces of women for war work. There are ten specific branches of work which are engaging the attention of those'' cooperation in this work. These are: Registration for Service, Food Pro- duction, Food Conservation, Women in Industry, Child Welfare, Maintain- ing Existing Social Service Agencies Health and Recreation Educational Propaganda, Liberty Loans, Home and Foreign Relief. The Dooly County Unit is now thor oughly organized and a report of all the work done in the past two months by women of the county'for war re lief)] as recently been forwarded to Washington. The totalization of the reports from over tie county proved most gratifying.) Many of the women of Dooly have been busy and are fur- nishing tangible proof thereof. The county chairmen of the various branches of the work are: Mrs. T. C. Butler, Chmn. Registration; Food Production and Conservation, Miss Lets Wpod; Worn-' en in Industry, Mrs. A. R. Ware; Child Welfare, Miss Sadie Morgan; Maintenance of. Existing Social Serv in' Agencies, Miss Minnie lee Jordan; The Local Board of this county has -received the following telegram from the Adjutant General of Georgia: ’“The Act providing for tips regis- When a Feller Needs a Friend tratton of men' who have become twenty-one years of age since June : 5th last has been passed by Congress and Proclamation by the President will be issued shortly nsiming June 5th, next, as day for registration. Give widest publicity through news papers to the effect that June 5th, 1918, is the day when all men who have become twenty-one years of age since last registration day mutt reg ister.” The Local Board therefore, calk on all newspapers in the* county to give this proclamation the widest publicity possible and every patriotic citizen U urged to azsist the Board and the nArspapers by seeing that this infor mation reaches every home in the ; county. Talk it everywhere you go 1 and with every person you meet. so that not a man shall fail to know hk duty on June the 6th. Last year numbers of persona plac ed notices on their automobiles call ing attention to registration day and thus advertised the date everywhere they went. It k requested that the same pkn be adopted this year by car Owners, who are interested in the suc cess of this Important war measure. , Additional information will appear in tho papers next week, giving full directions and instructions. All men becoming twenty-one since June 6, ; 1917, .will be required to register und shodld inform themselves fully. Non-resi dents desiring to register with their home-board must apply to thk Local Board for Registration Cards in time for the cards to reach their home , boards by June the 6th. TO HAVE EXHIB ITS AT SEVERAL FAIRS The Bureau of Navigation has is sued orders to all Navy Recruiting Stations to make a special drive for recruits in that Branch, and to suc cessfully do this we fully realize the importance of asking the assktance of the Newspapers in so far as con sistent with their daily routine of business. We 'are not permitted to run printed advertisements, and a ruling of that sort almost makes it obligatory on us to request the pa pers to carry something in the nature of a news item that will answer the purpose and at the same time prove very beneficial to those of their sub scribers desirous of voluntarily en listing into the Navy. The Navy is now offering some splendid opportu nities to all men between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five years inclus ive, and they can now volunteer into that branch irrespective of whether or not they registered on June 6th in the Selective service act All that is necessary for the applicant to do k to first go to the Local Draft Board of the County where registered and se cure a certificate from ~ EXPERT TO GIVE DEMONSTRATION get in the yoeman branch. Should he prefer medicine then he should take the hospital corps.' I am in the hospit al corps and naturally I like my branch better than any othpr. At present I am stationed at the naval hospital and itwiU be about two months before I am sent to sea. I like my work fine and am getting' a very good training. The Navy has fast filled up with mighty fine fellow^ and the majority of them arc southern boys. Wherev er I go I find my state to be well rep resented. You will find Georgia boys represented in every branch of the service. 'Have met lots of my college friends up here that I did not know were in thk part of the country and all are well pleased with the branch that they are in. We are all looking forward to a gi gantic naval battle this summer and those that enlkt now may get in in time to enjoy the excitement Trusting that the olu town k just as fine as ever, I am, ' G. M. As an evidence of hk recognition of tho importance of continuing fains of the county during tha war, Undo Bam is arranging a monster exhibit for a few of the most important fain of the United States and the manage ment of the Southeastern Fair has arranged to secure this big exhibit in its entirety. Its importance may be understood when it k explained that it ft transported in two baggage cars and will require eight thousand feet of floor space to properly stage the dispky. Thk exposition of the activities of the government in ita work of winning the war includes the Departments of Agriculture, War, Navy, Interior, Commbrce, Food Administration and Committee on Public Information. The exhibit will be accompanied by representatives of each Department who will expkin and demonstrata tha different features to tho visitors to the fair. In addition to the corporeal exhibits, there will bo moving pictures of a character that will only bo avail able to the general publle on each oc casion as thk and for thk reason, the people of Georgk who have an oppor tunity to visit Atlanta during the Fair should bo sura to avail them-, selves of thk great source of infor mation which has been arranged at MISS LETA WOOD TO BE IN CHARGE OF COTTAGE CHEESE DEMONSTRATION AT COUNCIL CHAMBER AT CITY HALL. Tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock Mka Lets Wood will hold a cottage cheese demonstration for the benefit of die ladies of thk city and commu nity. Assisting Mka Wood will be Miss McGee an expert from the State College who-k making a specialty of thk line of work. The demonstration should invite the attention of every housewife in the community. It k approved and endorsed by the Food administration, the cheese being strongly recommend ed as a substitute for meat, because ofJk nutritive properties. It k also quite paktable and can bo served in a variety of ways. Thk k the first of a series of dera- onstrations of thk Und Oat Mka Wood plans to hold at various points hr the county. Then applicant may proceed to Amer- icus or some other nearby Recruit ing Station and upon arrival a pre liminary examination will bit given and if found qualified, transporta tion will be furnished applicant to Atlanta, Ga., where final examina tion will be given, before sending ap plicant back home to awit orders call ing him into active service. H. RAWLS, Navy Recruiting Officer. DR. LUPO LANDS IN FRANCE Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lupo have re cently been notified that their son, Dr. Carl W. Lupo has sailed for France. Dr. Lupo graduated from Vander bilt University at Nashville, Tenn., in the class of 1917, soon after hk grad uation he began the practice of med icine in the Cotton Belt Hospital at Texsrimaa Ark. Ho was among the first to offer hk services to our gov ernment sad since hk enlistment has been stationed at Wahiagton City where he was mads First Lieutenant SHALL WE NOT HAVE A FAIR?
