Announcements.
Dooly county has thirteen physi
cians of eligible age for military serv
ice, these without an exception have
volunteered their services to the gov
ernment, and in response to' a call
from the chairman of the County
Medical Association, Dr. H. A. Mob
ley, went to Cordele yesterday for
examination by Major Denton, who
is conducting such examinations at
central points throughout the state.
Dooly county has only a limited
number of physicians, insufficient by
far to nieet the demand upon them
during the seasons when diseases in'
digenous to this climate nnd section
prevail. To diminish the number by
one even, would, it seems, be a serious
handicap to health conservation, how
ever, knowing this to be true the phy
sicians are responding patriotically
to the call of the government, express
ing willingness to make whatever
sacrifice is asked of them. The thir
teen physicians in the county of eli
gible age are Doctors Mobley, Wil
liams, Daves, Davis, Dykes, Kitchens,
Teasley, Hands, Pate, Bishop, Butler,
Harris and Lee.
Announcement of the quotas of
white selectmen from the 162 coun
ties in Georgia to be called during the
five day period beginning June 14th
and colored to be called during five
day period beginning Junel9th, shows
that Dooly's part of this allotment is
18 whites and 6 negroes.
The local bonrd has received no
orders in regard to the movement of
whites, orders have been received
however, to furnish six negro select
men, these to go forward on the 19th
to Camp Gordon.
It ia not known yet just who will
bo indludcd in this movement. -ti
On June 16th four white selectmen
will leave here for the Georgia
School of Technology for three
months' training in mechanics. These
are: ,
Oscar Grady Powell, Vienna.
Bennett Butler Smith, Vienna.
William Benjamin Grtner, Byrom-
viile. j
Alvin Basil Josey, Byromville.
These young men volunteered for
this branch of service and the three
months’ training.
Sheriff H. 0. Devis, Dr. F. E. Wil
liams, J. Frank Powell and L. L.
Woodward went to Macon yesterday
for a conference with the District
Board relative to a number of draft
cases that have come up for especial
attention.
Tile Woman's Missionary Society
of the Baptist Church will meet Tues
day afternoon June 18, at 4:80 at

The greatest and most immediate
task before the people of this county
is the Bale of over four hundred
thousand dollars worth of War Sav
ings Stamps, our apportionment of
the two billion dollars that the gov
ernment elects to raise through this
channel. June 28th has been 3et
apart by the President of the United
States as the time when all forces
s}iall unite in securing pledges for this
amount.
The forces in Dooly are being mo
bilized in preparation for the Big
Drive on that day. All other business
lb supposed to be set aside on that
day and every energy devoted to
making the drive a success.
In accordance with a request from
Mr. Hugh Richardson, State Chair
man of the W. S. S. Committee, May
or Lytle issues the following prods'
motion:
/To the Citizens of the City of Vienna:
Friay, June 28th, 1918, is officially
designated War Savings Day by the
President of-the United States and
the Governor of Georgia. All loyal
'citizens of this community will ac
cordingly devote the said day to sub
scribing for War Savings Stamps and
otherwise promoting their sale in
large amounts.
All who are able should pledge
theqiselveb to save and invest to the
limit allowed by law.

The Sunday School Convention of

HEN YOUR BOY was so little
that all the world was a for
eign country to him, he trust
ed you to take care of him.
You sent him to school and to play and
on your little errands, and with implicit
faith he did your bidding.
Now we have sent your boy or your
neighbor's boy out into a foreign land,
into terrors that he cannot even know
—and his faith has not faltered. He
knows we will do our part if he does
