of the low grades of cotton of which
a largen surplus is accumulating. This
low-grade cotton is piling up because
the ordinary otlet for it isc losed by
the war, and because cotton of higher
grades is being used by manufactur
ers, particularly on Government con
tracts when cotton of the lower grade
might be used satisfactorily instead.

We want to win and must win, but
it can’t all be done by economy of the
fanners' wives. There has been a lot
of talking, speaking, and writing on
the subject of economy, all of which
has been addressed to the wives of the
farmers. There are not many farm
ers’ wives who have not done their
part, and have been all the while.
It is springtime and there is a
great demand for farm hands and we,
the farmers’ wives, can take our ba
bies to tho field and set them down
under a bush in a cracker box and
hjjp back and forth while two or
