S. C., president of the Notro Damo Univer sity, says: "The War Savings cam paign will be powerful in winning this gigantic contest. Did you ever see a football gamoT Did you notice how anuch depended on the rooting from Ihes idelines nnd the bleachers! Well the War Savings campaign is an ideal form of rooting for ‘our aide.' It dis heartens the enemy as much aa it cheers and invigorates ‘our aide. “The duty of patriotism Ilea equally on young and old, rich and poor, clergy apd laymen. There la no reas on in creation for selecting our sol diers among men between 21 and 81 except that they are better able to do the physical work of tho war than the rest of us. But the work of war must bo done in homes, in churches, in schools and in factories, as well as upon the battle fields of th© world. And thew orst form of slacker—be cause ho has not oven tho poor, silly reason''of fear to excuse him—is tho slacker who is called upon to make only them inor sacrifice'of money and hoa not the heart to make it. DISE SHOULD B ESENT TO SOLDIERS Many Small Farmers Using These Clubs As a Market The Calf Clubs of Georgia are-call ing for pure bred calves and enrolling more boys and girls this year than ever before. This is Just another In dex of the Increasing interest In live stock In the elate. Through the com munity, county and state clubs the young people are being given the best methods of feeding and breeding cat tle. Through a well organized county Calf Club, properly financed by the local business men, the available in formation of the College of Agricul ture has on the subject of catUe feed ing and breeding and the practical knowledge of the County Agent may be placed in reach of the boyi and girls, and It wilt be* possible for each member to have a calf of desirable breeding to work with. It Is not ex pected that the boys and girls so en gaged will Immediately launch out In the cattle business or that the system of farming as practiced by their fath ers will be materially changed, hut it expected that the knowledge Imparted to the farm boys -sad girls will form a nucleus for a future agri cultural knowledge which will favor system of farming that takes Into consideration the Value and place of cattle raising. This moans that through the Calf Club wort lire stock men will be reared. After all, It Is livestock men that Georgia needs moat, for with them the cattle would soon be on the farms. Aside from the boys’ and girls' standpoint the work should prove of Immediate Value to those farmers who are raising cattle on a small scale and depend on the local butcher and country buyer for a market, and to those who are Interested In creating atmosphere favoring pure bred cat- Tho market created when the are purchased for the Calf Club members should Interest the farmers who annually havo calves for sale. A number of farmers understand so well vluo of tho work in this respect they have been active In assist ing In the organization of calf clnbs In their respective counties.—Prof. W. R-Nlshst, State College of Agriculture, L Dekle & Bro. The original order that the approv al of ar egimental or higher com< hiander was necessary before pack ages might be sent to members of the expeditionary forces has been modi fied so officers with the rank of ma jor and higher may approve ship ments. The approval of a company commander is not sufficent. The question of thes hipment of parcels to France first came to the attention of the War Department when the commanding general of the expeditionary forces cabled that con gestion of such articles had reached such- a point that French railroads were unable to handle the load. A board appointed by the Secretary of War and the postmaster examined 5.000 sacks of parcel post mail and found that the articles being sent not only, in the main, were absolutely un necessary, butu ndesirable. The in vestigation showed that the amount of such mail had reached a total of 500.000 pounds a week, and was stead ily increasing. Relatives and friends according to a recent statement by te War De partment, will find tey often can do a greater service to solditrs by send ing them money for the purchase of articles in France than by forwarding the articles. Tobacco is now being supplied as part of tho Army rations, and merchandise of nearly all kinds may now be purchased in France through the hugh general store, es tablished by the Quartermaster CoVp Always at Your Service for Printing Needs!
