It is a common thing for a CHEVROLET "Four Ninety” to
travel twenty-five milee on a gallon of gasoline.
There is no mystery as to why it should do better per gallon than
other cars.
The valve-in-Head motor is designed on a principle so simple
that any man who has ever had a hammer in his hand, knows it to
be the right principle.
When you strike a nail squarely on the head you get the full
benefit of the force behind the blow. If you hit a nail a glancing
blow, you dissipate much of the force.
In the CHEVROLET valve-in-head motor the explosion occurs
squarely on top of the piston head. The entire force of the ex
plosion is delivered to the driving mechanism.
In other types of motors —the T-head and L-head types—gas
oline is exploded in a side chamber—the force or impulse must
travel a abort distance at an angle to reach the piston head. Thus
it strikes a glancing blow. It has the same ineffectiveness of a
blow delivered on the edge of a nail-head.
•/
It is this difference in motors that makes possible low Chevrolet
gasoline consumption. It means all the difference in the world to
your pocket-book.
And it explans why people who have a respect for money select,
the CHEVROLET, entirely aside from the initial low price of the
CHEVROLET.
If this difference means anything to you, a demonstration of
any CHEVROLET model will prove its genuineness. And the
demonstration is gladly yours any time you request it.

Atlanta, July.—The most import
ant point in the plan outlined by the
Cotton States Official Advisory Mar-
keing Board, at the recent New Or
leans meeting, for the gradual mar
keting of the 1918 cotton crop, as
pointed out by. Commisioner of Agri
culture J. J. Brown, is this:
The cotton producers in each of
the cotton growing states are to be
urged not to market more than 20
per cent of their crop in any one
month; and to hold over for twelve
months, or until such time ai the war
is terminated, or shipping facilities
are ample to move the surplus free
ly, one bale out of every thrJb.”
That is the gist of the whole thing
toward the success of which every
thing else is to contribute. Every
bale of the 1918 cotton crop will be
needed. Conditions as to export and
Otherwise, are such that it is felt
steps are necessary to bring about
thep roper, gradual marketing of the
crop.
Compression and proper warehous
ing, with the maintenance of all nec
essary warehouse facilities, are urg
ed, both to facilitate transportation
and protect against damage and
waste.
Each cotton state is to be organiz
ed by counties and school districts,
canvasses made and pledge cards dis
tributed and signed. Members of
the .Cotton States Marketing Board
arc to work co-operatively in the var
ious states and every available agency
is to be used in completing the or
ganization and completing the plans
adopted.
Local community banks will be
urged everywhere to cooperate with
the growers of cotton in carrying all
surplus cotton for the producers, in
preference to cotton merchants and
speculators.
Another very important feature of
the plan is the “announced policy to
require by organization and coopera
tion among the producers, merchants
and bankers. That the distress
surplus cotton of the 1918-19 crop,
shall be carried by each local commu
nity, and that the great bulk of it
shall bo carried by the producers,"
until conditions as to shipping facil
ities and otherwise provide an outlet
for it at prices in excess of tho cost
of production.
This cotton marketing plan is ‘in-
tended to govern the intelligent move
ment and marketing of the crop Id
a gradual way, in such amanntr as to
make it respond to the demands of
trade; to prevent congestion at points
of concentration, and to distribute the
carrying burden of the surplus crop
among thep roducers who, under nor
mal economic conditions, are most
able to carry it.
“Thee otton states marketing
board,” said Commissioner Brown
“commends this plan to the country
as one that will more nearly equalize
the responsibilities of caring for and
conserving any surplus production of
cotton, until such time as it is needed
for oensumption until transportation
can conveniently move it; and as a
plan that will not overburden the fi
nancial institutions with unnecessary
responsibilities in time of war.
The board earnestly asks and seeks
the cooperation and help of all pro
ducers, merchants and bankers in
the cotton growing area, in its or
ganized efforts to meet ithe present
situation and to solve it in a way
which we believe will involve no great
hardship or extraordinary responsi
bility upon any individual or instltu-
ion, but will subserve the interests of
all and prevent less waste and conse
quent adversity among the produc-
It is stated the work of organiza
tion in the various counties and
school districts will begin practically
at once.

the majority of Southern farms so it
will be a real economy to spend a lit
