■■ Lei Me Handle Your Cotton FARMERS URGED TO HOLD THEIR COTTON / COMMISSIONER SAYS THERE IS NO REASON TO GET EXCITED OVER SITUATION. My many years in the warehouse busi ness give me the proper experience for handling cotton to the best advantage. I appreciate the business you have given me in the past, and hope to handle yourcotton again this season. / Yours to serve, T. R. SMITH. WANTED Buy your surplus mules. They must be in good condition and fit for WAR SERVICE. P. G. BUSBEE At Old Hamilton Stand. Atlanta, Ga., Aug.—“There is no reason to get excited over the cotton market situation," states Commis sioner of Agriculture J. J. Brown. If each farmer will retire and hold ev ery third bale, marketing the remain der gradually, the cotton situation will work out all light, Mr. Brown lid. "It has coat us an average of more than 26 centa to produce this crop,” Mr. Brown stated, “and the deter- ibration has been the greatest in the last forty days ever known. It is now evident that we cannot make a normal crop. ' , —"It has been clearly shown that the i American mills will need in round numbers a million bales more than last year. America exported last year about 4,600,000 bales. Recent ly England has increased her active spindles five per cent and increased ‘the number of working hours 15 per cent so that the English consumption will be more than a million bales in ex cess of what it was last year. "From these facta It is evident that the world’s demand will be more than two million bales in excess of last year; and since the crop will not be above normal, there is no reason that we con see to worry about the price of cotton. “The Iw of supply and demand un der which the farmers have been selling cotton for thelast fifty years and every principle of fair dealing, warrants a legitimate price of more than 36 centa a pound for the current crop. , “The Cotton States Advisory Mar keting Board, through its Washington statistician E. A. Calvin of Texas, will be in a position to give out a statement in then ear future as to the minimum price at which cotton should be legitimately and fairly sold. Through the Cotton States Market ing Board we have been able to ward off the savage bear attacks of the last three months, as well as meet and de feat the advocates of congressional price, fixing in the non-cotton produc ing states. We have thus been enab led to hold the spot cotton market from any material breaks. If the farmers of the South will stand solidly back of the Marketing Board in the efforts it is making in their behalf, I firmly believe they will get for their cotton a price which is fair, reason able and just.” When travelling, shopping, attending church or theatre, don’t forget to have handy a box of CHEVROLET! To All Automobile Owners: We have recently added to our already large stock several hundred gallons of Texaco Extra Heavy Motor Oil, which is claimed by experts to be the best and highest grade of motor oil now on the market. Owing to the scarcity of this oil, it will pay you to place your order for this oil before our supply is exhausted. " We are still in position to furnish you auto mobile tires of the highest grade at pld prices. In a few weeks it will be almost impossible to get all sizes of automobile tires, and for this reason we would advise you to purchase your tires at the earliest possible date. Your patronage will be appreciated. FORD & CALHOUN Pinehurst, Ga. Libel for Divorco, Dooly Superior Court, Nov. Term, 1918. Mrs. Lonnie Slaughter vs. Clifford Slaughter. BUSINESSES GROUPED Atlanta, Ga.—Through the recent work of the Resources and Conver. sion section of the War Industries Board, the steel products manufac turers, the wooden ware plants, the chemical, oil, paints, cements and al lied products firms have all , been grouped according to their line of business. This grouping has met with much approval because it is placing on a very systematic and helpful basis all the war industries of the state and the nation. It gives adequate organiza tion for war work, and provides the foundation for mutually helpful al liance even after thew ar is over. The work, in general, of the War Industries Board is attracting much attention; and opinion seems agreed that the results of its plan will be lasting benefit to nil classes of indus try.
