Kelly who was stricken with apoplexy o»- -*ne of the streets of that city. Mrs. Kelly is a sister of Mrs. E. Af. ,'Smith and has visited here a num ber of times as has her laughter Mrs. Royster of Norfolk. The Constitution of whicn Mr. Kfelly was a valuable employee has the following account of his deaU. Kelly, 55 years old, and one of the most prominent news paper men in the state, was strick-! en with apoplexy on Broad street shortly before 7 o’clock last even ing and died at 7:10, after having been remove 1 to a private sanitarium Mr. Kelly left the Constitution build ing just a few minutes before he was struck down, and was in a Jovial f conversation with friends. Of County Hoard of Education— Matter of Discipline in Stan*- Innd School Is. Adjusted. The Thomas County Board Of Education held a meeting yesterday at the Court House, being in ses sion for several hours. At that time the two newly appointed members, Messrs. J. F. Harris, of Pavo, and J. L. Gleason, of Metcalfe, partici pated in their first meetini. Mr. Harris was elected as President of the Board. Air. J. T. Chastain being the V r ice-Pre«ident and Superinten dent Searcy the Secretary. A matter of discipline, from tbw ■ifannland School, was referred to the Board for action. It seems that the teacher of that school, Miss Clevle Hand, ptin’shed a young child a switch hi order to make It perform the regular method of reading which she had adopted. Several stripes wore made on th© child’s legs and the matter was taken up by the trustees and then referred to the Board. Miss Halid was allowed to continue in charjg© of the school, the sense of the Board being that no action was necessary in the rase. Miss Hand is one of th© best informed and one of the most canahle teachers 'n the schools of the county.
