BELL BOY DUHNDED
Atlanta, Feb. 10.—A man named
E. A. McCree registered at a local
hotel yesterday, called a bell-boy,
wrote a check for $8,000 on a well-
known Georgia bank, handed It to
the negro and told him to run
around the corner and cash it. The
negro looked at the figure, and beat
it to the police station instead. Alc-
Cree pleaded that he was just out,
of the insane asylum.

Mexico City, Feb. 10.—Last night
passed quietly in Mexico City, and
seven o’clock this morning saw no
resumption of the fighting. Diaz has
made no new moves and the situa
tion remains much the same as las'
night, when the rebellious army
practically seized the city.
The stories of the flight of Madero
are not confirmed, but his relatives
refuse to divulge his whereabouts. .
Today’s Development Are Uncertain
Mexico City, Feb. 10.—The un
certainty as to what developments
will follow the revolt of the army
bv which Gen. Felix Diaz practically
captured the Mexican capital yester
day, prevailed here today.
The residents of the city are no
quiet, but they passed a sleepless
night, expecting to see more fighting
in the streets today.
More than two hundred people
were killed in yesterday’s revolt.
The populace didn’t know earl,
today whether Madero had fled from
the capital. With a following
about a thousand loyal troops,
took refuge in the -National Palace
yesterday, but it was reported
day-break that he had fled toward
the Eastern coast, taking his family
with him. It is also reported that
all members of the Cabinet had re
signed.
The report of Maderos flight is
| believed but as yet unconfirmed.
Madero remained in the National
palace here, or took refuge In the
palace at Chnpultepec, It is gener
ally assumed that a bombardment of
those palaces would follow.
The killing of Gen. - Bernardo
Reyes, fo?mer minister of war, in
vesterday’s fighting, was followed
By the suicide of his son, Rodolfo,
who shot himself because of grief
ever his father’s death.

CABINET TALKS
ABOUT MEXICO
IF PROTECTION OF AMERICAN
PROPERTY CANNOT BE GUAR
ANTEED, SOMETHING DEFINITE
WILL HAVE TO TAKE PLACE.
Washington,’ Feb. 10.—Piesider.i
Taft and his cabinet met early today
to take up the Mexican situation, it
was a special session of the cabinet,
originally called to consider the
President’s message on the budget
system, but the startling develop
ment of yesterday in Mexico diverted
its original purpose.
While it was again stated today
that there would be no intervention
during the remaining hree weeks of
the Taft administration, the general
staff of the army had their Mexican
mobilization plans ready, and the
Navy is in readiness 'or any emer-
genejr
It (feveloped today that the admin
istration was not completely sur
prised by the uprising In Mexico
City yesterday, as it has been expect
ing the end of the Madero regime
since early last fall.
The question to concern the cabi
net meeting was the precarious sit
uation of Americans, if neither Diaz
or Madero couldn’t guarantee pro
tection for their lives and property.
The principals of international law’
is understood to sanction interven
tion, where there is no titular au
thority in a country able or willing
to assume the duty of quelling an
archy, and preventing the pillage and
murder of foreigners.

cabinet meeting, declared that the

Atlanta, Feb. 10.—It is estimated
here that the passage of the Webn
bill, prohibiting interstate shipments
of whiskey intended for sale into
so-called dry states, will cut down the
express and mail-order supply of
Atlanta booze by more than 50 per
cent, and that It will have approxi
mately the same effect throughout
the state.
Theoretically the measure dor'< j
not touch the right of an individual |
to order whiskey for his own per
sonal use, or that of his family, but'
if he orders It in very large quar.-j
titles, under the Webb bill, he lays
himself open to suspicion.
The most serious complication
that will arise in Georgia will be
the effect that the new law may
have on the locker clubs. They get
thousands of gallons of whiskey and
liquors annually by Interstate ship
ments. In one sense, of course,
they do not get the whiskey for
sale; it is not offered to the pub
lic. But in another sense they do,
for in many clubs it Is only by dis
pensing whiskey at k profit to its
members, that the running expenses
of the club can be nk.
Whether the whiskey that mem
bers pay for at a clt(b comes under
the preecription of tlje Webb bill, is
a question that will in all proba
bility leda to litigation and appeal
to the higher courts.
