Nlghbert, inspector charge of the tick eradication work for the United States Department of Agriculture, for the states South Carolina, Georgia, and r lon- da, who has offices In the Federa building, high-grade Georgia ranted beef cattle will be shipped from Li ben county Into ihu markets of tne west, free and unrestricted by the first day of January, 1914. By that time he expects the work of tick eradication, which has been in pro gress in Elbert county for several months now, will have progressed far enough to place that county be- ; yond the cattle tick quarantine, which will allow shipments Into the I open market, a privilege accorded ; few counties In the state. Accord- : Ing to market quotations, on live i stock, the cattle from quarantined j sections of the South sells from three tu five cents a pound less than that from the free and open mar ket in which latter class Elbert county will soon belong. In order to hasten this mucbiy tu be desired condition, there has been organized in Elbert county a Cattle Feeders Association, In which the Elberton Oil Mill has taken a leading part, and is composed of the lead ing farmers and land owners in that county. Each member agrees to feed and raise for market from three to twenty hoad of beef, free of the cattle tick, in order that the shipment may be made into the open market. In addition to agree ing that a balanced ration of cot ton seed meal and hulls was the least expensive and best forms of feed, this organization has decided to Import several breeding hoards of high-grade beef stock for the use of the membership of the asso ciation. It has long since been demonstrated that the expense of feeding and fattening high-grade beef stock Is no more than that of attempting to fatten scrubs, and the profit Is a great deal more.
