The County • Commissioners at
their meeting yesterday decided by
resolution to dispense all charity
from the poorhouse. This decision
will affect some few people who
have been accustomed to receiving
from three to ten dollars per month
from the county, with which to
help support themselves. These de
mands have grown enormously in a
short time and the poorhouse has
been practically deserted.
The board decided to take care of
the county’s poor at the place for
products, at Southport, a suburb of
this city, and twenty cars awaiting
shipment, were destroyed today by
fire. The loss is estimated at one
hundred ihrusand dollars.
