| Washington, June 7.—Secretary
jof Sta*e William J. Bryan returned
| from Pittsburg today, and prepared
to take up with Counsellor Moore,
; Japan's latest note on the California
land legislation question.
! In the verbal exchanges between
j Secretary Bryan, Ambassador Chin-
da and President Wilson, the State
j Department to some extent, has been
. prepared for the newest points which
'Japan makes, but because of their
novelty, sue h as that relating to the
Fourteenth Amendment and the dis
tinction drawn between the rela
tive functions of the National and
State governments, the rejoinder
must be carefully analyzed before
any effort can be made to draft the
United Spates’ reply.
To avoid any unnecessary delay,
Secretary Bryan and President Wil
son will immediately start the pre
paration of a legal argument to
cover Japan’s rejoinder.
