Council met last night, but not much business was transacted. Al- derinau Bennett had another request 1 for an investigation of the impound ing fees and the Mayor went into a long statement of the affairs as j they were and showed the conditioni of the city as compared with other,' years which was interesting and showed unusual activity along many lines. The request for investigation was tabled almost unanimously. Various discussions of other mat ters of no moment occupied some of the time of the body, including the extra policeman which the Mayor has In service. He explained the | use for him and demonstrated that he was needed more at this time than at any other and he was au thorized to keep him on. The council voted to wire Judge H. W. Hopkins and Hon. B. C. j Reese in the state legislature that j they did not approve a bill which j would provide for a bond sinking fund for the city. And they u’ere against the measure which had been introduced on* principle and because they had no idea as to its provisions or for what purpose It was intro duced. They so wired these gentle men. Several blows were passed, and according to Eu banks and several eye-witnesses to the difficulty, Derrick seemed de termined to make it a personal mat ter and was the aggressor, striking Eubanks the first blow la the mouth.
