Mr. P». W. Stone was exhibiting today a watermelon grown by him which was one of tho finest seen in this section this year. This melon was of the Watson variety and weighed sixty-five pounds. It measured thirty-six inch es around and twenty-seven in length. It was grown on a ten-acre patch, the average weight of the melons from this patch being forty nounds, though many were much beyond that weight. Mr. Stone did not use any of the melons grown in this field, but only grew them for seed. Nowhere in the country can finer melons bo grown than around Thom- asville, which is the center of the melon belt, for this section of the State and headquarter* for ship ments.
