This question caused much specu
lation among politicians around the
capitol today. It is generally under
stood he will make trouble for the
Democratic organization. His lire
will be directed especially against
Aaron J. Levy, who is a candidate
for municipal Judge against Alfred
B. Smith, Speaker of the Assembly,
who is a candidate to succeed him
self.
It is believed Sulzer intends to in-
ade their districts and that he will
attempt to square his accounts with
them for the part they took in his
impeachment. * He will oppose the
Democratic organization candidates
generally.
Even SnJzer’s most bitter political
enemies concede for him a victory |
in his own Assembly district. T’.
is also no doubt but that the Repub
licans will work hard for the Im
peached Governor in the hope that
he will repay them by his attar
on the Tammany organization.
The question causing the most
speculation today was, how many
votes Sulzer would be ablo to swing
for the Speakership candidacy, and
if he is elected, it Is believed the next
Assembly will be divided among
three parties. Sulzer may prove a
big factor, as a majority Is required
to name a speaker, and a long dead
lock is anticipated if Sulzer does
enter the race for Speaker,
Sulzer doesn’t admit he has de
serted the Democratic party, by ac
centing the Progressive nomination
and Republican endorsement. He is
a non-partisan candidate, be say:
fighting for principles.
