Judge Park took counsel with his
friends as to the advisability of re
signing the judgeship before an
nouncing his candiducy for Congress,
and the preponderance of opinion
of those consulted was against his
resigning. In the discussion of tho
subject the fact was brought out that
a sudden, precipitate resignation by
Judge Park at this time would make
trouble and delay, if it did not cause
a miscarriage of justice, in some
cases. There are a number of mo
tions for new trials pending. Hav
ing tried these cases, Judge Park is
familiar with the evidence and the
law of each case. He can therefore,
pass upon the motions fur new trials
better than any now judge who might
be called to preside over the courts
of the circuit at this time, and the
matter was presented to him in a
way to make him feel that he could
not honorably resign ami leave these
motions to be disposed of bv an
