Boston, Mass., Dec. .1.—Twenty-
five men were killed early today in
a fire that swept through the up
per floors of the Arcadia hotel, a
lodging house in the Southern por
tion of Boston. Scores of others
were taken to hospitals, suffering
from burns and Injuries, received in
jamping from windows.
NearD all the bodies were terribly
burned, and some of them were mu
tilated beyond recognition.
Tho victims were poor men who
had resorted to tho place because of

building, and in the small rooms on

less when aroused, the stairways be

naked.
Many of the roomers were rescued
bv the firemen and police, while
some escaped by walking a shaky
plunk, stretched to an adjoining
building, or by jumping across nar
row alloys to neighboring roofs.
On the fourth floor, where the loss
of life was heaviest, there were
thirty tiny rooms, built like cells,
