Girls observed Arbor Day last Friday
afternoon, by planting trees in front
of tho Y. M. C. A. building on Daw
son street.
Promptly at 4:3tt o'clock, the mem
bers of the local Campfire, singing
their "Walking Song,” marened in
file from the building of the V. M.
C'. A., and formed a semi-circle
around tho holes that had been dug
tor planting the two trees. The
girls in their Indian costumes made
tho prettiest group oi Indian maid
ens ever seen here, even in the days
when Thomasville was a camping
ground for the tribes of lied Men.
Two handsome evergreen oaks
had been brought in from the
woods to he re-planted for the oc
fusion, and during the singing of
"America," Misses Goodwin Mitchell
and Jessie Watt, at one hole, and
Misses Fraser Mitchell and Mary
Eva Mallette at the other, lifted tile
trees and piaeed them in the holes,
every member of the Csmofire
throwing in a handful of dirt. A jar
containing a roster of the names of
the members and their Guardian,
Mrs. J. Scott Hunter, was put In
each hole and maybe a hundred
years to come, when tlio trees will
have decayed, they will be road by

A balance sheet show, that the
