Mr. Barlter's son, near Cairo, was being choked by a negro man, when he pulled a pistol and shot Him dead. WATSON KILLED BY SON NEAR OCHLOCKNEE. News of a horrible tragedy was received in Ochlockneo this morning and an account was phoned The Tluies-Enterprlse by its re presentative, who was in that to* 11 today. Mr. William Watson v*as shot and killed by bia seventecn-year- old son, at aboue eleven o’clock Friday night. It seems from all ac counts which could be gathered, that Mr. Watson had been under the influence of liquor for a day or sj, und during that timo ' was out of his reaeon. He threatened to burn his housa and had also threat ened his w'ife and other members of his family with violence. He became so enraged la^t night about eleven o’clock that he ic sold to have attempted to cut his wile’s throat, and* his young son, who was in the room, in order to save the life of his mother, picked up a pistol and emptied it, four shots taking effect in tho right side of Mr* Watson’s body, and killing him instantly. The tragedy was one of the most horrible that ba3 been known In that section for many years. It occurred at Union, about six miles from Ochlocknee, and was witnessed by the family of Mr. Watson, including his wife and five children. Mr. Watson was a very promi nent man in that section and hold the respect and friendship of the people where ho lived. That he should have been so demented by the effect of the whiskey and attempted to take the life of his wife, causing his own son to shoot him dead, has cast a pall of deep, sin cere sorrow throughout that section. The body was taken to Ochlockneo and buried in the cemetery there Saturday at three o’clock. No arrests have been made, and it is not expected that anything of that nature will occur, as the act, according to reports, was entirely Justified. figures show that five Ions of the sweet stuff is eaten every year, at j least most of the ‘/iris eat it while the remaining few mash most of it to see if it 13 what they like and if not, carelessly fling it away. Tho price of this candy would -he approx imately six thousand dollars. There are more good candies sold In Thomasville, .too; than in almost any town of its size in tho state. Nunnally’s, Norris’. I.owney’s, Huy- ley's, Johnstone’s and other brands have agencies here and each one has its special devotees. The safe of the Nunnally brand Is probably the largest, this being the best known candy that is sold In Georgia. Norris is a strong com petitor of Nunnullv and is likewise made in Atlanta. Many persons, desirlous of reach ing the President by letter, have sent their communications here, knowing there is no large force of secretaries to handle the President’s mail. The conditions, however, are much like that at ’Washington, and only the urgent letters are referred to the President. The bulk of the correspondence, covering requests for engagements, endorsement of candidates, and similar matters wont bo given tho President’s personal attention until he returns to Wash ington, and then they will be sys tematically assorted for him ’in tho customary manner. Among the thousands of letters received here, many of them have endorsed various bankers and oth ers for membership on the new Fed eral reserve currency board.
