Atlanta, March 25.—Just to per

her bathing suit yesterday and went

and He Got Busy Bight A\v»y.
Atlanta, March 26.—Governor
John M. Slaton, most peacable and
diplomatic of Georgians, became
warlike yesterday afternoon. On
coming out of the mansion, he no
ticed that a force of city employes

strip off the front of tbe mansion
lawn. The fence was down, and two
or three trees as well as a considera
ble strip of grass were about to be
sacrificed to the widening of Peach-
?e’s "Bottle Neck."
It took the governor and comman
der-in-chief of Georgia’s army and
navy about thirty second to reach a
telephone and get the city attorney
on the other end of it.
"If the city of Atlanta don’t get
off the State of Georgia’s property
mighty quick, I am going to order
out the state militia and have some
body Jailed, ’• he announced with
firmness.
Then he sent the same message to
the city hall, and in less time than
it takes to tell it, the work of cut
ting the uu.na'on lawn was stopped.
An amicable investigation follow
ed, with the result, apparently that
the city has got a right, expressly
given by the Legislature, to pare off
part of the front lawn of the man
sion. but that the city was in error
in not submitting the plans to the
Governor aud getting hi, approval
