Closing Exercises of The Singletary
School.
Singletary School, of which Miss
Sarah Kelly, of Wblgham, was the
efficient teacher, closed Friday, Ap
ril 10th, with a picnic throughout
the day and an entertainment Fri
day evening.
The people began to assemble ear
ly in the day and by the noon hour,
which is the most Important one for
picnickers, there was a large crowd,
plenty of lemonade and to spare,
more nice dinner than two such
crowds could have eaten.
Of course every one enjoyed the
day Immensely. The day was epent
ln singing, talking, listening to mu
sic, making pictures, hunting eggs
'and doing other things which It
| takes to make every one have a Jolly
j good time.
J At about four o’clock, the crowd
begun to disperse, some returning
home and some visiting in the neigh
borhood. About 7:30 they returned
to the school house for the racer en
joyable feature of the entire day.
This was the entertainment given by
the school, which consisted of reci
tations, declamations, readings, dia
logues, singing, etc., by the punlls.
Throughout the exercises, any one
could easily see the marked intelli
gence of the pupils and the efforts
made by them as xvell as tho effects
of the skillful management of their
teacher, Mias Kelly.
Another enjoyaoTe’part of 'fe pro
gram was the delightful music, ren
dered by the string band, which was
composed of Messrs. Otis Brinson,
Charlie Cardin. Ernest Greene and
Mrs. Thompson.
Besides all the people of the com
munity, there were visitors from
Ochlocknee, Thomasvllle, Meigs. Bos-
■ ton, Cairo and Balnbridge, and other
[places, making a large crowd.
[ Everybody departed about 10:30
[o'clock, feeling as though the day
was not thrown away by any means.
