The cities and towns are not
only enterprising and public-
spirited enough to vote bonds
for Improvements and for ex
tension of street paving, sower-
age and waterworks systems,
but their credit Is good and they
sell their bonds without irou-
ble. I have In mind one city
in Southwest Georgia, which
authorized Issuance of 4 \i per
cent, bonds In a good round
sum. Good offers for the bonds
were received, but the mayor
and finance committee thought
that they should make a still
better sale. There| was a nice
sum In the city treasury to the
credit of the sinking fund, and
the authorities went ahead and
sold .a portion of the bonds to
the city Itself, placing the re
mainder of the bonds among lo
cal banks, who willingly paid the
price asked. Since then, local
investors have bought from the
city some of its own bonds
which It had bought In with
sinking-fund money. All this
Indicates a decree of confidence
In lornl securities that Is as
gratifying as It Is Interesting.
