last Friday, May 8th.
An Interesting program, was car
ried out by the school on Tbuisday
night, followed by a picnic on Fri
day. An able address was delivered
In the morning by Hon. H. J. Mac
Intyre. Dinner, which was plentiful
was enjoyed by all present, and was
served in the oak grove near the
school house. Free lemonade was

Crops are doing nicely and every
body Is needing rain for oafs to do
their best and also the garden truck
for that is what the rabbits will
leave us as they are destroying all
the beans and peas. We never saw
the like of rabbits, guess they are
sent by Providence In advance of
the no-fence to help out In tile meat
line.
We are sorry to learn that Mrs.
Bettle Ansley Is not any better, she
has been sick for quite a while. Her
many friends hope for her a speedy
recovery.

The rain which was so badly need
ed came last Tuesday and made the
farmers, who had been wearing a
frown, come out with a bright smile.
The crops in this community are
progressing nicely. The watermel
ons must be doing extra well this
season, as we hear no complaint at
all on the watermelon crops. We
have heard some of the watermelon
growers boasting of their fine crop
this year. Tho oat crop is said to
be somewhat shorter, as a result of
the continued drouth, but It Is be
lieved the rain came In time to be
of great benefit to the oat growers.

On the 25th of March, 1914, at
her home near Meigs, the Death An
gel visited and claimed for his own
our beloved sister, Mrs. Pearl Davis,
who was formerly Miss Pearl Rob
erts, the devoted and ciiorls.ied
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Rob
erts. As wo have known her from
childhood, we are fully prepared to
say that as wife, mother and Chris
tian, she had no superior, and but
few equals. Sho was born Decem
ber 26th. 1887, and united with the
Missionary Baptist Church at Mid
way at tho age of 15 years, of which
she has been a conslstant member
until her death, when she Joined the
blood-washed throng abovo, where
she awaits the coming of loved ones
whom she has left below, 3ome of
whom we will here mention
The loving husband, Mr. Jeff Da
vis, to whom she was Joined In the
holy bonds of matrimony, January
15th, 1908. Then comes the two
darling children, Leon and Myrtice,
whose little hearts will never know
the love of a precious mother, and
lastly, In the old home, in which
she was so tenderly reared, dwells
the heart-broken father and mother.

day. But such things have hap
pened before.
Her life was one so worthy of
emulation, and In her death was
demonstrated the power of s living
faith in Christ Jesus, and now while
we miss her, and our hearts sorrow
because of the loss of her, yet we
should ever be ready to bow In hum
ble submission to the Master’s will,
and be comforted with the thought
that our loss Is her eternal gain.

The city has placed the order for
the six Inch water mains which It
was decided to lay out Dawson
street from Monroe to the end ot
the street. Work will commence
within thirty days on the actual lay
ing of the pipe.

The Irish potato bags are very
numerous in this section and are a
very annoying visitor to the potato
growers.
Mr. Tom Lacy and a few of hts
friends of Pelham, spent Tuesday In
this community fishing.

A quiet but Interesting home wed
ding Monday was that of Mrs.
Rosa Bibb Wood to Mr. C. B. Sav
age, of Montgomery, Ala., which
took place at the residence ot Mr.
and Mrs. W. H, Bibb, Jr., on Col
lege Street.
The ceremony, which took place
at 1 o’clock, was witnessed only by
a few of the relatives and close
friends of the contracting parties,
the ceremony being Impressively
performed by Rev. J. M. Outler.
The bride wore a pretty traveling,
suit of grey with bat to match, and
carried a bouquet of bride’s roses.
Mr. and Mrs. Savage left over the
Atlantic Coast Line at 8:05 for Tam
pa, and other points In Florida,
where they-will remain for abont ten
days.
The bride has many friends and
relatives In Thomasvllle, where she
is well known and popular. The
groom Is a popular traveling sales
man from Montgomery, but may de
cide to reside In Thomasvllle In fu
ture.
The Coast Line now has si: large
passenger engines for use on the
Montgomery division. They are of
the four hundred series equipped
with all of the latest and most mod
ern devices. The company has also
eight freight engines, 6f the eight
hundred series, which are the larg
est engines on this division. They
pall eighty cars without any serious
trouble.
Miss Minnie Weldon has been one
of the guests at a very delightful
houso party given by Mrs. Hugh T,
McKinnon, at her home, in Troy,
Ala. ' There are several other young
ladles In the uarty. and many charm
ing social attentions have been paid
them.
