That No-Fence Question.
What wouia Decome of 1,500 head
of hogs and 100 cows that now roam
at large upon our streets, should
the no-fence fellows be in the ma
jority?
This is indeed quite a serious
question with the averago citizen of
■Meigs, as many of them raise not
only enough hogs for their own use

much cash, as our sidewalks are

Many hundreds of dollars worth of

streets. If not for the hog to eat
them, the acorns would be almost
a nuisance with us.
Crops Looking R«<L
The crop conditions here and hure-
abouts seem to have gone to the
bad during the past two weeks, the
last few days especially ,on account
of a hot and scroching sun, and no
rain nor moisture in tho ground
worth speaking ot. Should the rain
stuy off one week longer, it would
be hard to figure on the loss to the
farmers, and most certainly the
melon, canteloupe and corn grow
ers. Even under the most favora
ble conditions from now on nothing
like a respectable crop of melons
ould be expected and about the same
with canteloupes and corn.
