THE TELEGRAPH OX THE AP
POINTMENT.
The Macon Telegraph of the 24th
Inst., in an editorial on Mr. Luke's
appointment, is unkind to Senator
Smith, unjust to The Times-Enter-
prise and unworthy of itself. This
paper did say that the people of
Thomas County should demand M.r
Luke's apopintment, but it in no
way intended to threaten Senator
Smith. The word perhaps was
poorly clioseu, as is often the case in
hurrying “copy - to the printer. As
matter of fact, Senator Smith,
hare admired him, even when op
posed to his politics.
It gives us great pleasure to add
to our heretofore regard for the
man, our sincere admiration for
the statesman. s
