noon against Russia.

Thomas County tax returns show an Increase of two million, one
hundred and eleven thousand dollars, as compiled this year, and as
sessed and revised by the commissioners appointed under the new
tax act. It Is a showing which will be as interesting as any happen
ing of Its kind In the history of the county and attests the wisdom
of the law, without any serious opposition hy discontented tax-pay
ers. The kicks have been fewer than was expected and each has
been satisfactorily adjusted.

FRENCH DOCTOR
London, Aug. 3.—Telegrams from
the chief of the German staff to the
German embassy here today, assert
that a French doctor, with two as
sistants, tried to poison all the wells
near Metz, with cholera microbes.
The doctor was courtmartlalled and
shot.
This same source of Information
said that another French party had
endeavored to blow up u strategic
tunnel near Crochem, on the Mo
selle. All were shot.
