Thomas County Tuesday, along
with many others In the State of
Georgia, administered the expected
rebuke to the bolters from the Demo
cratic party. It showed beyond
question that the majority of the
voters of the Itate favored the party
and its nominees, although many of
them fail to endorse the methods
employed by the representatives of
the party who promulgated the rules
governing the primary and subse
quent State convention. Hoke Smith
and Thomas W. Hardwick gained
mighty few friends by the action of
the Macon Convention, but the peo
ple of Georgia are loyal and true to
the core and they voted for the
men who, unde" the rules, were
clearly and unquestionably entitled j
to the office.
It's all In the game of politics,
however, and the fellow who pulls
the most wires and pulls them at
t ie rlsht time usually wins. It's a
game in which each man can enter
and match hh wits against those of
his opponents. There are things
about politics the average citizen
cannot know, and would not com
prehend did hr know. There are
also men whose under surface ac
tions In an effort to get office would
shame the devil, and they sometimes
get Into office, but the people are
not aware of their methods, but
they are powerful enough to de
mand competent and fair service.
It was a game In Georgia this year,
j as usual, and there wasn’t any too
much openness about It—but that’s
dead and gone.
