London, Nov. 12.—The wave of
optimism which has been sweeping
oven England during the past week,
was checked today by the news of
the German occupatton cf Plxmtuie,
and, the renewed Indication of peril
from German submarine!, by the
fate of the torpedo boat Niger, which
was destroyed yesterday by a Ger
man submarine. This disaster oc
curred within sight of the I.aglish
shore, in a narrow part of the chan
