the coal shortage, were able to open

Dempsey, several thousand citizens
of Olyphant borough, five miles north
of here, yesterday marched on the
Delaware and Hudson Railroad and
confiscated four cars of coal to supply
churches and schools that have been
without fuel for weeks.
The federal government and state
fuel commission had been accused by
the Olyphant people of ignoring their
picas and yesterday they took matters
into their own hands and seized the
coal.
Trucks, wagons, automobiles and
vehicles of every sort were pressed
into servico to haul the coal to the
churches and schools. The schools
had been closed two weeks and 2,600
pupils had been out of their classes
because coal companies mining in
Olyphant shipped tho fuel to other
cities and refused to sell any in
Olyphant. The Olyphant authorities
put an embargo on a train of coal in
tbe borough and are holding It.
While hundreds of citizens shovel,
cd the coal into the trucks tho fire

to keep railroad pollco from interfer
ing. There was no interference
from the railroad authorities, how
ever, and tons of coal were moved
rapidly to Olyphant.
