LYNCHING NOT PECULIAR TO
AMERICA
Our British cousins aro wont to as
sume an air ot superiority when they
talk about mob murders that take
place In this country, and they are not
sparing of such adjectives as "brutal''
and “barbarous” when they discuss the
work of our lynchers. Unfortunately
cause for downbeartedness in this part
of the country. Cotton cuts very little
figure ln Thomas county, but there
has been more raised here than last
year and the price Is regarded as
satisfactory, although most of the
small growers sold when the staple
was lower than it i> today.
Peanuts have shown a remarkable
rise ln price, and while last year prices
were not satisfactory, there are many
raisers who claim that the present
price is sufficient to allow them a fair
margin of profit. Peanuts are going
to be planted next year more generally
and so is cotton. This condition
ways follows a year of satisfactory
prices.
Edward Rose stage version of the
novel by Anthony Hope, on which tbe
photoplay Is based, so popular.
It ls a story of the adventures of
Rudolf Rassendyll, a yonng English
man who tor a time became the king
of th* mythical country of Ruritan*
and who won tbe love of the Princes,
Fiavla, after a series of plot, and
counterplots during which he la com
pelled to fight for his very life. Beau

an exceptional caet contribute
make this romance one which will be
talked about by *11 lovers of good pic
tures.
In tbe cast ere Lewis Stone,. Robert
Bdeson, Alice Terry, Stuar- Holmes,
Ramon Navarro, Barbara La liarr,
Mai com McGregor, Edward Coenslly,
and Lois Lee. The adaptation was
done by Mary O'Hara and the photog

SENATOR HARRIS SAYS
DEMOCRATS WILL NOW
CONTROL LEGISLATION
Atlanta. Go., Nov. 13.—Politicians
here are still talking about tbe recent
general election which they point to
ns very much of a Democratic land-
slide. Democracy, It ls asserted, prmc
tlcally has regained all the ground It
lost In the terrific slump of tha Presi
dential campaign and Js in a fair way
to turn the tables upon tho Republl
cans in the next Presidential elec-
tion in much the same way as the Re
publicans turned them upon tbe Demo
crats when Harding went ln with
such a heavy maojrlty. Last Tues
day's landslide, It Is pointed out here,
means that the country ls returning
to political normalcy.
Democratic leaders here tako the
position that the Democrats will make
such gains ln the national senate that
two years from now they will get con
trol. In that event, It Is considered
quite probable that U. S. Senator Wm.
J. Harris of Georgia will get the
chairmanship of the appropriations
committee. This ls recognized as the
most powerful and most influential of
all the committees, especially for
Georgia, as this State receives more
money from the federal government
than any other state In the South.
Only four northern States, It ls stat
ed, get more money from the nation
al treasury than Georgia. Georgia
has never had the chalrmansalp of
the appropriations oommtttee ot the
Senate.
Recovery of Tennessee.
One of the gratifying features to
Southern Democrats of the recent
election, as pointed out here today by
Senator Harris, was the return of Ten-
nessco Democrats In a spelndld way,
neesee Democrats ln a splndld way,
the Senator said, recovered the State
from Republicanism carrying the state

Yet people will take such chances in the fall
