The man that says he can't live on

Labor agents who are using warning

The plane that goes aloft and alights

The poor and needy always get sym

on.
If we have 65 per cent, of the world's

than all of the rest of the world com

Tho Wilson Foundation still lacks
some money, and Georgia ought to
pony up some or quit doing so much
talking.
Monkey glands are about as useful

BUSY CORNERS MAKE CAREFUL
AUTO DRIVERS.
Thomasville at the Intersection of
Broad and Jackson streets on Satur-
day afternoon looks like a real big
city, judging by the trafflc that passes
that point. There are always some
delays and awkward ones at that,
during the rush hours but this point
has ceased to become a point of great
est danger, because many drivers
have been convinced of the danger of
recklessness at that point.
This Is a thing that tho driver
must do for every point If he would
drive carefully. Impress that on an
auto driver, the average man
and nearly all average men
drive them these days, and
he will drive carefully. Give
him an open space and no apparent
hindrances and ho loses sight of pos
sible danger and lets It out. The re
sult Is too often disastrous. The chief
thing Is to impress drivers with the
dangers that attend carelessness and
speeding and wa will have fewer ac
cidents.
Police regulation will do a lot of It
but not all.
SEATING MRS. FELTON.
Senator George didn't have to give
way to Mrs. Felton. He did It purely
as a matter of courtesy with what
ever pressure the good lady and hef
friends might have Invoked In her
behalf. The point Is that he was not
compelled or particularly urged by
Impartial end unpartlsan forces to nl-
low her to take her seat.
Senator George has a following that
haa grown considerably since he was
elected, a natural sequence in all af
fairs political. The following was
augmented by a large number, who
thought he ought to have lot lira
Felton be seated for tho sske of the
newness and novelty of the th'.ag.
Whether he was actuated (by that
desire or genuine courtesy we may
probably never know. Let's give him
the benefit of the doubt, however,
and In either event there Is notblng
that can be condemned In the proce
dure . Mrs. Felton Is happy and a lot
of women along with her. The Sen
ate has had a woman an a member
and no harm done. Georgia has been
advertised extensively and a good
man Is still on the Job.
THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE
CRADLE.
The Savannah Press copies a little
verse from somo western paper that
runs this way:
The band that rocks the cradle,
Now 1s stained with nicotine;
And the foot upon the rocker,
Likes to step on gasoline.
That Is a parody that embodies
some truth but It Is misleading be
cause the tendency Is not entirely In
that direction as the verse would Indi
cate. There Is entirely too much of
pleasure-seeking among mothers and
fathers, entirely too much of a desire
to avoid and evade the duties of par
enthood and yet It Is not so general
that the race Is being devitalized and
made deficient.
We can look on this sort of thing
with amused tolerance because it is
supposed to he more witty than sensi
ble. If this was the truth we might
as well close shop and let the world
go by or go hang as the case may be.
Both probably before It got through.
Motherhood will never entirely degen
erate and we may thank God that It
will not for upon It hangs all the law
and civilization.

HALL-MILLS CA8E STILL RE
MAINS A MYSTERY
The Hall-Mills murder mystery still
remains that, despite all the fuss and
furor that has boon gone through In
the past six weeks. The murderer of
the Rector and his lady friend la still
unknown as far as the legal machin
ery of New Jersey can discover. This
does not mean that It will always re
main that although there la always a
; notorious lessening of effort when
j public Interest has been allowed to
cool off In such Investigations.
I There are those, who glibly charge
{that the reason is money. Intlma-
1 tlons that the grand jury was bought,
I that witnesses were hired to get sway
and that some did not tell any or all
of what they know, are freely made.
This Is unjust and unfair. Id facL it
seema to be Inane, although there is
always that sort of a feeling when
Justice falls In Its mission.
Jersey will have to continue Us ef
forts to find out who Is responsible
for the world is Interested to an ex
tent that demand* that the murder he
avenged legally even though thera it
every reSson to believe that th'e vic
tims were entertaining illicit relations
with each other and as such might not
be entitled to the respect which the
calling of either of them would nor
mally demand.
THE MYSTERY OF SLEEP; WHAT
IS IT8 FUNCTION?
Jack Britton, former welter-weight
champion, offers $10,000 to any one
who can make him sleep normally.
He's bad Insomnia for a year. Many
pugilists have It only in the ring.
"It's nervous trouble," says Brit
ton. "Training for 20 years has prov
ed too much. While I haven't any
particular designs on getting the title
back, I figure I can still box a lot If
I can get sleep. If I can't. I'll be forc
ed to quit"
Jack, why don't you try reading the
Congressional Record?
If yon have ever toesed at night, un
able to drown this nerve-stabbing life
In deep sleep, you symilathtze • with
Britton.
We spend a third of our lives in
bed.
And the Incalculable value of sound -
sleep Is realized only by the chronic
victim of insomnia.
Do you find, os the average, that
your waking life le more delicious
than the perfect calm of perfect sleep?
Considering the joy with which we
close our eyes end rest our weary bod
ies and tired brains at night, It Is a
trifle strange bow man dreads the fi
nal aleep, death.
Sir Basil Thomson, former head ol
Scotland Yard detectives, has solved
many mysteries of crime. None of
them was a millionth as mysterious
as sleep.
Claperede had a theory, that nature
makes us sleep to prevent us from
killing onrselves by exhaustion.
The Coriat school physicians believ
es that sleep Is simply a relaxation of
all muscles, necessary to rid our bod
ies of poisons accumulated while
awake.
A third theory, by Dr. Boris 8Idls,
Is that monotony is the cause o'
sleep. When life no longer Is Inter
esting enough to keep us awake, we
chloroform ourselves with slumber.
If so, we sleep because our subcon
scious minds get bored at this rather
dull life on earth.
It is one of the most baffling enig
mas of nature. Is sleep. Also, one of
the greatest forms of real wealth, or
fortune. Dollars and fame lose their
lure when natural sleep is denied
chronically.
What would you not give to know
wlmt happens to your real self when
slumber divorces you from the materi
al world?—Americus Times Recorder.
AS YET UNSOLVED
The Democratic party Is beginning
to look around to see, or try to see,
who can lead It to victory In 1924,
against President Harding. The party
Is encouraged by the lack of efficiency
and necessary ability on the part of
the Republican leaden, but It has yet
left unsolved the leadership of Its own
party.
It Is going to bo necessary to find
some man, who can really lead, who
Is an outstanding figure and whose
ability will make It positive that Wood-
row Wilson will have a reel succes
sor. It Is difficult to find, from the
presentable list, Just who will measurs
up to that standard. The people, so
tar, failed to realise who that man la.
McAdoo Is a candidate. James M.
Cox will also let his name bo used la
the customary avid way. Al Smith of
New Tork, newly elected governor, Is
mentioned. Underwood’s name la fre
quently heard. None of them are so
able, however, that their names arc
In the mouths of all of the people.
That sort of a man la needed and bad
ly needed, unless we have misjudged
the signs.
The party will stand a good chance
of electing a president two years
hence, If there Is a man, who can com
mand the support of the Intelligent
and enthusiastic members of tha party
organization. A split In forces will
ruin the chances we may have of suc
cess. Who Is the maa?

The passing of the razorhack and

Blue ribbons were tbe rule, rathei

This is a good algn because it be
tokens tha Interest that people will
naturally take In cattle ot this kind,
when they have aeen not oily that
they are among the best in the world,
bnt they have witnessed by actual
tests the great profits that can hs
made from them with no more ex

old scrub cattle. Our open

tho parasites that used to suck the
profit from the cows' blood has been
about eradicated.
ANOTHER SMALL ITEM.
President Harding has named
George V. Denny to be collector of tbe
port of Savannah. This name was pre
sented by the president to the Senate
some time ago and was withdrawn
when it was stated with some vehem
ence by Senator Watson that Mr.
Denny was objectionable personally to
him.
Id the face of this objection Mr.
Harding presents the same man again
for confirmation by the Senate and
Mr. Harris has taken up the cudgel
ugalnst him In a way that will not
bring reproach on him. He says that
Mr. Denny Is not personally objection
able to him, but he feels that the posi
tion Mr, Watson took should be re
spected, especially since the appoint
ment wus withdrawn because of his
objections.
This Is merely another small Item
of worry for the offlce-glver of the
Republican party, but It will bring
about some discussions in the Senate
and may lose him tbe job, through the
branch ot Senatorial courtesy
seems to exist In matters of that char
acter.
In the president’s rooms, they say,
were Hong's two bodyguards, smoking
opium. Both were arrested.- Olaf
Lempbeke, safe expert of the police
squad, opened two depositories and in
them were found the pistols, the brass
knuckles, and the ammunition.
In a large hollow Idol In tbe as
sembly room, the squad say they
found fourteen packages of opium and
100 poppy heads, from which the
drug Is extracted. More opium was
found upon ripping up the floor. Its
value Dr. Simonstated, was In thous
ands ot dollars.

Representative W. I. MacIntyre has
received a copy of the Acts of the
Georgia Legislature for 1922, In which
three amendments of Interest to Thom-
ae county are contained.
One Is an amendment changing the
status of the city court of Thomasville
Id a minor respect, giving the state
the right le demand a trial by jury.
This point was recently made In a
•civil case going up from this court In
which It was claimed that the court
did not fill all of the qualifications
necessary, due to the fact that this
had been left out
Tbe second amendment changed the
charter ot the town ot Coolidge, re
duclng the limits of the town to a hall
mile from tbe Intersection of Pine and
Japonlca streets and fixing certain
qualifications for registrations and
elections in the town.
The third 1b that, which relates to
the change of voting In the city of
Thomasville. Heretofore the voting
apportionment for the two precincts
was based on population resi ling east
and west of Broad street This made
the court house list small and the city
hall list large and rotarded the count
somewhat. The new amendment fixes
It so that all voters whose surnames
begin with letters starting at "A" and
running through "h" shall vote at pre
cinct No. 1, which Is the court houso.
All from “M” through “Z" shall vote
lhat at the city ball. This will divide the
vote equally, as far as Is possible. The
court house was named as Precinct
No. 1 in the former amendatory act
and the city halt No. 2. This was not
•changed by the new amendment, but
the voting by letters wbb the only
change, tho first letters through '‘L”
being assigned to Precinct No. 1 and
the rest to Precinct No. 2. The hours
for voting are from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m„
according to the old act, and this was
not ohanged.
