Pension Bill.'
The lobby investigating committee of
which Senator H. W. Hopkins is chair-
maa, is bringing forth some interesting
facts in regard to the condition of af
fairs, in and around the Georgia legis
lature. Not many people suppose that
the investigation will result in any
criminal prosecution, but it has served
to make public any amount of interest
ing political gosip that has been whis
pered around for the past few years.
Under the caption “Do Dreams Come
True”, the Atlanta Constitution prints
• a story, that it evidently considers a
pipe dream. Of course no one who j
knows Hon. Fondren Mitchell, believes
that he would permit the use of money
in a race in which he is interested.
“It was at this, point that Senator
Davis took a hand at the questioning

he had been offered $100 to change his
vote from Morris to Mitchell. ' Mr.
Mills had come to Mr. Morris with this
• story one evening. He had been asked
■ across to a saloon, he said, and there
•offered $100, which the qoan produced,
if he would go over to Mr. Mitchell.
Mr. Morris had at once sent for Mr.
Little and Mr. Mills had repeated the
-story in his presence. Then Mr."Mills
■had gone down into the lobby to see if

The Times-Enterprise has been in
formed that a number of unscrupulous
negroes are reaping a rich harvest from
the more ignorant members of their race
in this vicinity.
They are using Senator Hanna's pro
posed bill to pension ex-slaves as i, bait
to lure coin from the pockets of the un
wary. Their method of procedure is to
represent themselves Senator Hanna's
agents. They then collect any sum from
25 cents to $2 from the ex slaves or their
descendants and guarantee a fat pension
in return. Of course their guarantee is
wortidess.
W. B. Wilson, an old colored man
well known in Thomusville, wrote Sen
ator Hanna in regard to the matter and

measure, and any efforts^being made
along that line with the representation
that it is done with his sanction are
