RAIN-THE CROPS.
!P?e had a fine shower late yester.
day evening, with heavy thunder, and
thib morning every"hing seems fully
recovered Irora the excessive heat of
the few days previous. The farmers
were beginning to need rain, and now
that the crops have had so fine and
seasonable a shower, wo regard the
early corn as made.
WHEAT.
The splendid gample of Wheat wo
mentioned in our last issue, was sent
tqi us by Mr. Andrew McMath, a well
kboavn citizen of the county, residing
ahdtft three miles from Tbomasvtfie.
He repor's it a fair sample of his crop,
and we assun e therefore, that Mr.
McMath has been very successful, the
present year, in raising wheat. If
more of our farmers would follow his
example, therq would not bo much
flour sold here at twenty-tico dollars
fer barrel.
CARROTS
Mr. G G. Gibbs sends us from his
farm in the country, a sample of the
Carrots grown by him this season. —
This vegetable has received hut little
attention in this section, hut is now
growing in favor. Mr. Gibbs has been
very successful in their cultivation,
and judging from those he has laid
Before us, they could not be brought
to greater perfection in any climate or
section Wc are glad to see that our
farmers are giving more attention to
variety, and taking more pride in pro
ducing the-finest specimens of the fa
vorite vegetables
TOMATOES.
Mrs. J. 11. Campbell, of Thomas,
vtllo sends us a sample of Tomatoes,
which surpasses in size and richness
df color, all others we have seen dun
ing the season. We are not sufficiently
acquainted With Tomatoes to designate
their particular name or species, but
if there wo any ««jww.ur to thuao w«
have never seen them.
