SAVANNAH NEWS St HERALD For the information of our Thom asville readers, who may desire to sub< scribe for tbe above popular conserva tive journal, we publish the following at the request of Mr. J". R. S. Davis : OFFICE SEWS A HRRAI.D,) 111 Bar 81., Nnvnnnnh, > August 6, 180,. ) Mr. J. R. S. DAVIS, of Tbomiwville, is our authorized agent for that city, to receive ad vertisements and subaeripfiona. Aug 9 MASON A ESTILL. FOREIGN VISITOR. A native of Braril, Mr. A. R. P. Labre, an educated and intelligent gentleiiian % arrived in Thoinasville by tho Gulf train on Wednesday morning and put up at tho Young house. His vietftts onc of observation among the farms of tho South, with a view to un derstand our method of cultivating cotton. He says the cofott he has seen in this 'section is much better than that‘euMvuleu in Israeli, but it is the dfesire of tho Brazilians to learn hdwto cultivate it to tho best udvan> tage. Our farming implements are curiosities to him, and most of them, especially, the plow, almost entirely unknown in bis country. Mr. Labre is a social and pleasant gentleman. GRAND ENTERTAINMENT. We are requested to state that the next entertainment by tbe Thomas* ville Thespians for the benefit of Nep tune Fire Company, will be given on next Tuesday night, at FoucWs Hall. New Pieces, with appropriate scenery, see programme. NEW FIRM. Read the advertisement of S. it. Robison & Cos. These gentlemen have opened a commission house on Jackson street, and promise to keep supplies of all goods iu their line. The Cos refers to our friend R. A. Varne <loe, so well known in the Express, and the names of both gentlemen are sufficient to give confidence in tho firm. CATTERPILLARS COMING. We regret to hear that the Cutter pillar has made its appearance in some of the extensive Cotton fields of this county. Several respectable farmers have furnished un with the same in* formation, and strong apprehensions are entertained that the Cotton crop will be greatly damaged if not entirely destroyed by them. PERSONAL. Mr S. W. Mason, Chief Editor of tho Savannah News <s• Herald, and his accomplished wife, have been ruraliz ing iu our quiet village for the past two days, and left on the train yester day evening to visit Quitman and Valdosta. Mr. M. was looking well, and we were pleased to learn from him that our town and section made a good impression on bis mind, and gave him a fair appetite for tho good things prepared by our friend at ttie hotel. The Herald has many readers throughout this section, and its efK« cient Chief Editor was therefore no stranger, but bis pleasant fare was not familiar, and it was well for him to show himself among us. The neat and handsome appearanco of tho Iler •mltl is a fair representation of the man who conducts if, and those wlto pat ronize it are acquainted with the abil ity it brings to the support of tho che rished institutions of the country. A. Solomoue fit Cos., Druggiata. Three gentlemen, having ordered exten sively from European markets, will receive and open in a few days ICO packages of every thing pertaining to their business. This is tbe first instalment on their orders, and from ita magnitude, and the energy and taste displayed heretofore by this firm, the public cau expect to see a stock of goods unequalled for variety and taste. Direct importation will give these gentle men tbe advantage over many, both in quality and price, especially the latter, which in these days is the great cousumutatiou so devoutly wished for. When we undertake to write anything in praise of this firm, we huriUy know what to say, inasmuch as the public generally are too fovell acquainted with its business dealings aad prompt, fair and liberal transactions.
