YOIXI FE3IILE COLLEGE.
We are gratified to learn that the Trus
tees appointed by Maj. E. R. Xoung, in his
last will and testament, to take charge of
and control the large donation he made for
the building of a Female College in Thom
avilie, have at last commenced in earnest
to carry out the will of the liberal donor.
They have already secured an eligible and
beautiful location of sixty acres of ground,
on the premises of S. Alexander Smith.
Esq., and in full view of the Railroad and
convenient to the town. The Trustees are
also making an angements to commence
building at oaee, and we shall soon have
another splendid improvement to add im
portance and value to our alrea .y rapioly
growing village It is intended to make
the College building no ornament to the
town, and fully carry out the object Os the
donor. The grounds chosen are the most
eligible that could be found in the vicinity,
and constitute the highest point of land on
the Atlantic A Gulf Railroad between Sa
vannah and Bainbridge, a distance of two
hundred and forty miles from the seaboard.
Mr. S. Alexander Smith, from whom the
site was purchased, deserves the highest
coramen ! mon for his liberality, in yield
ing up his land for a very moderate sum,
and abandoning his long cherished plans
of 1 rying off and dividing those land to
harmonise with the town surveys on an ad
joining lot. For the benefit of the College
he yielded up his private views and inter
ests, and allowed the finest locality on his
premises to be carved out. When these
grounds are well laid out, ornamented with
trees and walks, and capped with a splen
did building, thev will present a most beau
tiful scene to the eye of the traveller as he
passes by on the Atlantic & Gulf Railroad,
as well as to the visitors of the College.

“ Betmisstre.”—This is a Novel well
worth reading. The characters are true
to life, and drawn with masterly skill. The
author shows perfect acquaintance w.th
human nature, and lie paints it in this novel
with the hand of an artist. Nothing is
overdrawn to mar the beauty of the picture
—nothing omitted that would add to the
effect. The story, as declared by the pub
lisher, is at once nioviug and winning,
natural and romantic, and certain to raise
all the finer sympathies of the reader’s
nature.
Several ladies of our acquaintance who
have also read “ Bryminstre ” express the
highest delight with the story,
