Sutton at Cairo, Saturday aud Sunday. There is a small frog pond on the road leading from this place to Pelham, about two rnilos frpm this place. A few days since several gentlemen living near de cided to “drive’’ it for an alligator that wes supposed to be there. In a short time they succeeded in killing one about six feet in length, and discovered an other about teu feet long, besides quite a number of little ones The pond covers only about one-fonrth of an acre, and is not very deep, bnt has a thick growth of bushes. Mr. C. R. Sasser went courting to Thomasville Monday. Mr. W. E. Duren, of Thomasville, was a welcome visitor here Sunday. Tlifire is talk of another hotel for this place. Mr. Haywood Singletary, a popular young man of this place, took himself to Ochlockoneo Saturday afternoon to look after some 'individual’ interests ho has there. Last Saturday afternoon in company with a friend. I took a jaunt through the vicinity east of Ochlockoneo. The farmers do not seem to be so nearly np with work, as the farmors of this vicin* ity. I noticed many new homes, and quite a number of settled places, that speak of thrift aud comfort, especially the homo of Mr. R. R. Chastain, who lias about 800 acres of land around him. Last Saturday night seemed to be bur glar night in this place. Some timo daring the night some miscreant entered the home of Mr. A S. Braswell and took from his room his pants, and after tak ing all the money, cYsmall amount from tho pockets left them. Mr. Braswell is an attache of the J. N. Carter Oo., and had the keys to the store in his pockets. They were left. The thief seemed to know that Mrs. B. is a most excellent cook, aud going through the dining room carried with him a fine roast, that was for Sunday dinner. Later the resi dence of Mr. G. W, Fnlford was entered, aud his pants were stolen. They won’t fit. Mr. Fulford is about six, two. On the same night a large hole was bored through the back door of the, store of Mr. T. F. Dyson and quite a number of tilings were taken from the store. Among other things several pistols, a couple of boxes of tobacco and several sets of knives and forks. Prof. A. E. Smith, of the Meigs Graded School, spent Saturday in Thom- asville. Mrs. Marguerite Singletary and Miss Blanche Fleetwood of Ochlockoneo were tho guests of Mrs. W. M. Singletary of this place, a few days since. Mrs. J.D. Atkinson of Doerun is here v lHiting the/amliylof Mr.^wTETDavis. Mr. Hoggard Davis and his brido of Barwick came over Tuesday to visit home folks. Mr. Davis is the railroad agent at Barwick, at which place he was married on tho 17th. inst. to Miss Red- fcaVnof that placo. Wo extend our congratulations. A short time ago, Mr. Robt. Grinor, living a few 'miles from this place in wringing some straw to scatter fire in some rough noticed a brown object in the mouth of a gopher den. On iuvestiga- Searcy. tion lie heard a noise that aroused hi curiosity i ao procuring a spade he sat to work to find out the inhabitants of the den. After digging for some time a go pher came to light. A few more min utes work revealed the fact that there were snakes there. Two very large rat tlers were nnearthed. one bearing Beren and tho other eight rattles. Mr. Griner lost not tlie opportunity to dispatch both of them. Prof. Smith and his school picnicked at Midway Springs last Friday. Every body had a good time, and a good din- ner. Dr. J. M. Isler aud Mr. T, E. Ross made a business trip fo Tliomasviiio Tnesdivy. Until Saturday night’s episodo witli burglars, it lias been many a day since the houses of tills town havo been clos ed with lock and key as they are now. Many of the ladies seem to keep in mind the old woman’s injunction, “not to let the baby breathe ahy night air.” A band of marauders aeem to be work ing this town. Ilearn ofsryeral other attempts to enter houses since Saturday night. Oar young ladles seem to]be having a grammar discussion, judging from the number of knotty problems ^that iiave been handed around. For instance; is this expression strictly grammatical: ’’Here are a bunch of keys; John lias my other store keys.” It is supposed that yon are exhibiting a portion of your keys, some of whiijh belong to your store. Yonr clerk has your other store keys. What does other lindteate,—two stores or one? Wonld^yon say "tie tho ropetiglMy?” “The pot is boiling?” “Tile lionso is building?” "Tho yard is sweeping?” Tlieje little disputes cn uie I mo to ruminate. In the first place, I will say that 1 am not always responsi ble for the errors in grammar andfspeU- ing that occur in this column. Bnt I am astonished at the lackof practical knowledge of tho English langnage, not only among others, bnt among teachers. Such expressions, as “I taken it,” “haven't saw," “1done it,” “it’s mo" und the like are common in overy day talk. I think, sometimes, that it would be a good tiling if one could adopt the rnles-of grammar to Ills way of talking, instead of spending years tryiug to fit Ids talk to the rales of grammar. Then instend of saying "do, did done," we could say, "I dono it, I done done it, I dono dono and done done it. There is no sncli word at "et” in English, yet nearly every one will say that hollas "et.” The slang, ”Sho’ was,” and “Sho’ did,- are so Ungrammatical, and inelegant that it should never be em ployed by pretentions people for the cor rect word and form ‘'surely." A Remedy That No One h Afraid To Take. Dr. Thacher’s Liver and Blood 8jnip has been used in thousands of homes for fifty-two years with perfect confidence and the most remarkable results. Doctors and Druggists everywhere da not hesitate to recommend ^preparation which they know contains the best- known remedies for correcting all; irreg-^ ularities of the Liver, Kidneys or Blood, and the diseases caused by the failure of these functions to perform their proper work. Residents of Albany which it near enough to Thomasville so that any it te-upt to deceive would be futile, de clare that Doan's Kidney Pills cure kiuney diseases and backache and they stand by what they say. It is easy for any Thomasville sufferer to verify this proof. Mrs. Annie Wo.dall, of 157 Broad street, Albany, Ga., savs; ‘1 navo de rived a great benefit from the use of Doan’s Kidney Pills.
