In a recent private letter, Rev. A P.

the Thomasville District. He has

We are now engaged in a revision of
the New Testament in the Shanghai
dialect for a new edition. We are also
translating the Old Testament into the
Shanghai dialect. I have been working
with this committee, which consists of
eight or ten of the Shanghai mission
aries, for Qome five or six years.”

Mattie Brinkley’s House Burned
and Others Caught-
Night hawks were alarmed early yes
terday morning to nee the eastern skv
lit np wit flame, about one.o’clock. The
blaze was oat at the rotiderce of Mattie
Brinkley colored, at Calhoun nnd Modi'
non streets. It had gained considerable
headway before the a'arm wm tarned
in. The honse with all its contents was
burned to the ground. Three other
houses belonging to the same woman
and occupied by tenants also caught.bat
were£extingaished with only slight (loss,
The Brink Jo j woman is a thrifty
negress and aoonmu'.ated considerable
property. The hoase that was destroy
ed was a noat cottage and unusually
well furnished It contained a new
$500 piano whioh wont up in flames.
There {was insurance of $1000 on the
house and furniture but the loss was
more thou that Mattie was away on
the Tampa excursion and there was no
one in the house. How the fire started
is a mystery un'oss it was of incendiary
origin.
It had burned a good while before
discovery and the fire department found
it impossible to save the honse. They
did good work in extingnishing the
other incipient blazes.
Expecting Gbeat Things.
In concluding his letter he says:
"There is a general feeling of expectancy
here among the missionaries that we
are going to have a great revival in
China liko those we have boon reading
about in Wsle* and England and dif
ferent parts of the United States. The
Missionaries hero hare been holding
daily prayer meetings for ten weeks,
praying for the out-pouring of tiie Holy
Spirit in Shanghai and throughout
Oliiua. We believe tlip time is near at
hand for a great movement in the
chnrches in this mission field.*’
A missionary wilting from Korea
says: "It would possibly seem from
the home standpoint that a country 00
near the seat of war, and materially in
volved in the outcome of the same,
would be greatly disturbed. This is
not so. As for our missionary work in
particular, it is growing by lesps and
bonnds and there is at the same time,
healthy and sound work going on in the
people’s hearts. There is among *the
people an eager thirst for all sorts of
nsefnl knowledge. Calls are numerous
for local schools and instruction in Wes
tern learning. There is a 'a sound of a
going* everywhere, and we are in the
midst of it or hard poshed to keep np
with the tide. Political and montal agi
tations do not overtop religious aspira
tions, but the latter are equally alive in
every sense. The country is as safe for
missionaries as it has ever been.'

GOOD BLOOD
TELLS ITS OWN STORY
And tells it eloquently in the bright eye, the supple,
elastic movement, the smooth, soft skin, glowing with
health, a body sound and well, an active brain, good
appetite and digestion, refreshing sleep, energy to per
form the duties and capacity to enjoy the pleasures of
life. The blood is the most vital part of the body;
every organ, muscle, tissue, .nerve, sinew and bone is dependent on it for
nourishment and strength, and as it circulates through the system, pure and
strong, it furnishes to these different parts all the healthful qualities nature
intended. When, from any cause, the blood becomes impure or diseased, it
tells a different story, quite as forceful in its way. Itching, burning skin
diseases, muddy, sallow complexions, disfiguring sores, boils, carbuncles,
etc., show the presence, in the 'blood, of some foreign matter or poison.
Rheumatism, Catarrh, Contagious Blood Foison and Scrofula, are effects of
a deeply poisoned blood circulation. These may either be inherited or ac
quired, but the seat of trouble is the same—-the
blood. S. S. S., a purely vegetable blood remedy,
cleanses and purifies the circulation and makes it
strong and clean. Under its purifying and tonic ef
fects all poisons and impurities are expelled from
the blood, the general health is built up, all disfiguring eruptions and blem
ishes disappear, the skin becomes soft and smooth and robust health blesses
life. Rheumatism, Catarrh, Scrofula, Contagious Blood Poison and all dis
eases of the blood are cured by S. S. S. Book on the'blood and any medical
