The commencement exercises of the
pnblio schools Friday morning were
a complete sacoess. The day was pleas-
with a cool breexe, and the anditorium
was well filled b) friends and patrons

terest by the clote attention with
which they followed the exeroises.
On the platform were seated the mem
bers of the graduating class, the orator,
the superintendent, the high school
teachers, the ministers of the city and
others. After the invention by Rev
Ed F.Oook and an opening musical nnm
her, Snpt. A. J. Barwicx made a few
timely introductory remarks. He ex
plained that the object of the aohool
was to train the heart a. well as the
brain and hand and to fit the yonng
people for a life of service to the world.
He then tamed the exercises aver to Mr
Frank Mitchell president of the class.
Mr. Mitchell gave a very brief and very
appropriate address. He made a grace
ful presiding officer and introduced each
speaker with some, well chosen remarks.
Bradford Ansley was the class histo
rian. ‘‘Besides the interesting account
of their fonijTears of high school life the
speaker made •ome'pertinent hits at the
expense of ins class mates. Prophet
Sam Hayea then mapp:d ont the fntnre
of his friends in llie class. His witty
adjustment of their fate caused much
merriment and his production was one
of the moot interesting on the program.

GOES TO PAVO

The district conference. Thomasviile
district, of the Methodist church will
te held in Pavo from June 20th to 23rd
of this month. The conference "will be
in charge of Presiding Elder Ed. P.
Cook. Many Thomasviile and Thomas
county people will attend and will take
part in the program.
On Wednesday the 21st. J. F. Evans
will speak on the topic. “What are the
evidences of spirituality in the chnroh."
H. 0. Jones of Boston will discuss
“Pastoral Visiting as a means of De
veloping the Spiritual Life of the Peo
ple." Rev. J. M. Ontler will preach a
rermon “The Rlvival We Need and
How to Promote It."
On Thursday*the 22nd. J. B. Wight
of Cairo will contribute an article on
“The Obligation of the Pastor to keep
himself and his people informed on the
subject of Missions." E. R. Whaley of
Boston and G P, Reviere of Pelham
speak on “The obligation to pay as
sessments in fall." K P. Wight of
Cairo will speak on the pastor's respon
sibility in the matter of fall assessments
Mrs. W. P. Blaslngame, Mrs. Ed. F.
Cook, and Miss Alice Groover will take
part in the womans work. W. H. Bran
don will give a plan for “Financing the
Chnroh " J. M. Ontler and J. F. Pitt-
mau will jointly handle the question,
“The Church on its business side."
Rev. Ed. F. Cook will deliver an illu
strated lecture on “Japan and regenera
tion."
The conference promises to be one of
the most snccerrfnl in the history of the
distriot.

tinguiehed for faithful work and each
member seems to have a brilliant future
