Instead of destroying the mucous ,1 uni not unmindful of the kindly
sentiments relative to myself
pressed therein; Indeed, I am deeply
grateful for them and appreciate
them highly.
I agree with you that South Geor
gia, rapidly becoming. If not already
the most important part of the Stats,
Is entitled to the governorship at
the next election. Her claim Is very
generally admitted, and It she were
to make a strong and united effort to
secure It, hearty support would be
given her in otherparts of the State.
I am not Insensible to the honor
you do me In asking me to beoome a
candidate. The office is a great one
and worthy of any man's ambition.
Is It not, however, early to begin a
campaign? The governor whs In
augurated only a few weeks ago and
his term ls two years. It will be al
most a year before the primary for
choosing his successor will be held.
If It ls true there are candidates
In the field and they are making a
vigorous campaign, but are there Is
sues peadlng that demand a "cam
paign of education?" It seems to
me that the people are famlMar with
about all the questions likely to be
discussed In a gubernatorial cam
paign and will be ready to vote upon
them without a year’s discussion of
them. Records of candidates may
ned some explanation and time be
wanted for that, but the people are
not likely to be greatly Inluenced by
a candidate whose record Isn’t al
ready made up and known.
Therefore It seems to me that there
Is no good reason for a long cam
paign, and that there Is nothing to
he gained by a formal announcement
ss far In advance of the primary.
Later on If partial friends, In whose
judgment and fidelity I have confl.
donee, as I have in yours, feel as you
do In regard to my candidacy, it will
give me great pleasure to comply
with your request.

that the Georgia Northern would be
willing to run an excuralon here from

we know that our . people want to

have already decided to vote for him.

Do you want a Dinner Set, Toilet Set, few
odd pieces. I am sure you do and you are afraid they
can not be had at a reasonable figure.
Go to thinking about these things; come to me and
I will show yon how easy it will be for both of us to
agree on a subject of Such importance.
