ANOTHER CLUE PROVED fo
- BE FALSE SUSPECT NEGRO
BROUGHT IN BlIT RELEASED
From Saturlay’s Dally.
Live Oak, Fla., Aug. 25.—Special
to Times Enterprise,—Sheriff T. J.
Hight and party nrrived here at 11
o’clock this morning frorp Thomas-
vllle to Identify the negro held here
by Sheriff Hirkcrson, supposed to be
the ravtsher of Mrs, Charles Outze.
He did not answer the description of
Harder and was released from cus
tody. Sheriff Hight left this after
noon for Perry, Fla., where a sus-
eious looking negro was seen last
night. They seem to have a hot
trail there bat contrary to the general
opinion .there is .no one under
arrest there. The sheriff of this coun
ty has a god cine for a likely suc
cessful arrest within the next day or
two.
The above telegram from Lire Oak
received yesterday afternoon tells in
brief the story of another disappoint
ment In the Harder chase. Sheriff
Hight accompanied by Messrs. W. F.
Outze, W. W. Linton and T. E.’Ama-
•on left here at 6 o’clock yesterday
morning for Live Oak and with them
went the hopes of the entire slty that
the man they went to view might be
the tight one. Now the only result
of their Journey Is the downfall of
another hope.
The news from Florida shows how
ever that the negro Is almost certain
ly In that vicinity and with the In
crease of the reward hnd with the
Thomasville peeplo on the track there
la atlll the possibility of a favorable
outcome to the long man hunt
From Sunday’s Issue.
There Is nothing encouraging In
yesterday's reports of the Harder
search. The first sensation was
caused at 10:30 In the morning when
Constable West of Sale City brought
down a handcuffed coon on the Alba-
ny train, who had been captured the
night before. The pUlcers weso on
hand to meet him, and In so’me way
the word had been passed around
that there would be "something do
ing," so a big crowd was there, too.
Charles Outze was there to Identi
fy him, but a single glance convinc
ed him tha't this was not the right
man. cH was too tall, too, slightly
built, too black and his teeth ■
good. He had a slight scar oi.. v
lower lip. The train brought^.bW
through Meigs and Ocblockonee and
left excitement behind. . The negro
appeared to be only half wltted ann
It la said, "confessed" to the crime
when olosely questioned. This caused
the people along the line to think he
was the right man and a number of
them telephoned the Tlmes-Enter
prise for news daring the dy.
Ho was badly scared and very hap
py at his release. He was taken
back to Sale Cityat 4:39 p. m.
On neither the 10:20 or 4:20 "P-
m. did any of the sheriff's party re
turn from Perry. Other travelers
on the afternoon train say that Sher
iff Hight is now In the vicinity of
Lake Bird following a trail.
The Savannah News brought word
of a negro named Pearl Hunter ar
rested In the A. C. L. yards at Savan
nah. He was for a time thought to
be Harder but it wasflnally decided
that he was not.
The Visual number of wild rumors
flew about. A number of people
came in on the train at 4:20 p. m.
having heard that Harder was under
arrest here, but they were, of coures,
disappointed. '
The lubscrlptlon list circulated by
Mr. James A. Mitchell resulted in'a
total of »210 offered by private citi
zens. The Outze family offers 350,
the' county of Thomas 3200 and the
State of Getfrgia 3200 making the
total 3660.
The season’s first cold
may be slight—may yield
to early treatment, but the
ne$t cold will hang on
longer; it will be more
troublesome, too. Un
necessary to take chances
on that second one. Scott’s
Emulsion, is a preventive
as well as a cure. Take

short visit with her parents. Dr. and

remainder of the season. Mr. Wight
