| R. C. Bell of Cairo wai In tbe
city on Tuesday. Ur. Bell is one of
'the bright young lawyers who has
moved to the hustling capital of I
Grady county recently. He reports
that everything Is booming over
there.
Washington, Sept 30.—President
Roosevelt’s trip through the South
the latter halt of October will not
merely be to see and be seen; it will
have a distinct tinge of Rooseveltlan
politics. At least that is the im-
presalon that is just, now growing
here and eliciting lively anticipa
tions. .
In short, it-is believed that Mn
Roosevelti will In his brief speeches
take the high ground of th national
welfare and appeal to the South tor
effect upon her representatives
touching Southern interests in back
ing him in several of his policies, no
tably railway legislation, ratifica
tion of tbe agreement with San Do
mingo, defense of the Panama can
al, passage of legislation tor the Phil
ippines to be recommended by Sec
retary Taft and other vital subjects.
It is believed that the President,
realising he will need Democratic as
well as Republican votes to sustain
him, will try to make it plain to
Southerners that he will proceed on
broad, unpartlsan principles . and
that it will, effectually create a sent
iment so considerable In ita support
of the administration th^t only the
most Bourbon Democrats from the
Southern States in congress would
vote against him.
Moreover, it is said to be the
cherished hope of the President that
this style of appeal to Dixie will serve
to unite the country as'It has never
been and thus crown his administra
tion with the triumph of a genuine
national patriotism, of which he
would be the central heroic figure.

Obituary.
In memory of Little Viya Kennedy.
Precious darling you are gone.
And our hearts are sad tonight,
Papa and mama are so lone,
Sinch you’ve taken your Heaven
ward flight.
•••
Your once happy home la quiet to
night,
For we hear no more your childish
glee;
We sadly miss your face so. bright,
Since you have crossed the jasper
sea.
We'll never hear again on earth,
Tbe prattle of your little feet
Nor the sweet echo of your mith,
As we'once did when we would
meet
For your spirit has taken its flight.
To dwell in eternal bliss.
And we are so lonely tonight,
For we miss your good night kiss.
And while this sorrow our hearts
new rends,
We’ll dry our weeping eyes.
For we know God sometimes sends
A blessing in disguise.
•••
And while your chair is vacant now,
Apd yon are gone dear one.
We only to our Lord’s will bow.
And say thy will he done.
•••
But we hope to meet again some day
When the Journey of life ia o’er
Meet with those now gone away.
Meet to part no more.
