The monthly weather report for November Is an interesting paper. It shows that there were only four days In the enttro thirty on which even a trace of rain fell. Valdosta, Ga„ Nov. 30.—The grand jury concluded Its work after a ten day's session.' A score of wit nesses was examined for the purpose of finding out If Tom McDonald and his son, James, were concerned with the Rawllngs-Carter tragedy, their names having been used so frequent during the trial. No bill was returned though So licitor Thomas was diligent In hunt ing evidence against the men. Like the former grand Jury the present Jury thought the evidence Insuffi cient for an indictment Rawlings and his boys are to be reeentenced the last of this week and the elder Rawlings has sent Judge Mitchell word tfiat he wants about, twenty minutes In wblch to make a statement. It Is understood tbnt he will say that he Is the "direct white man In the affair,” though there le another, one Indirectly In It, besides the three negroes. Rawlings has lost all hopes of es cape from the gallows and his state ment will be In the nature of a “farewell addfeos,” as well ns a su- preme effort to try and save his sons. To date there has been about 7,000 bar rels of syrup to leave this market and very nearly 4,700 bales of cot ton. The cotton ahimenta show a shortage of nearly 8,000 bales and there Is a proportionate falling off in syrup. The decrease In the cotton receipts Is on account of two causes the lessening of acreage and a very poor crop year. The shortage In the yield of syrup is due practically to alone.
