Instructions contain particular reference to cer tain changes In the tax act since las year. Bank presidents are exempt from the speclSc tax of $10, which hat heretofore been levied upon them. The state tax upon all liquor deal- ' era for 1906 Is $300 instead of $200 as heretofore. Agents of non-resident corpora tions who manufacture patent soda water syrups must pay the $400 tax Just the same as home concerns who make them. Bottling works where soda and light drinks are bottled are taxed for the first time next year, the tax ranging from $6 to $300, according to the amount of business done. A specific tax is put for the first time upon all home and foreign cor porations, this tax being graduated In accordance with the corporation’s capital stock, as follows: Corpora tions with capital stock not exceeding $25,000, $5; with capital sfdck of $26,000-to $100,000, $10; capital of $100,000 to $300,000, $26; with capital $300,000 to $600,000, $60:' with capital $600,000 to $1,000,000, $75; and with capital over $1,000,- 000, $100. Dealers In tobacco of any kind who redeem tags on their packages or plugs must pay a tax of $200. The only other Important change In the law Is that all corporations In the state which are required to return their franchises for taxation to the controller general, must also return to him their physical prop erty. Heretofore certain classes of corporations such as gas companies, electric light companies and similar returned their next door, yesterday morning' she found that the lock of the hack door had been tampered with. The door had been bored through so that the lock could be removed and the door opened. A careful examination of the prem ises showed that nothing had been taken. It is even doubtful that the Intruder entered the house. No tracks were found or no evidences of his presence. It Is probable that something frightened him away From Saturday’s Dally. Two freight wrecks on the same mfornlng within a few hundred yards of each other was the record of the Coast Line yesterday. The wrecks' both occurred near the 95 mile poBt five miles from town. In one case the engine of a west-bound freight left the track, was shorn of Its pi lot, and carried several cars with It. In the other case some of the cars of an eastward train left the track. One rolled down the embank ment and lies there now on the flat of Its back. The wrecks occurred about day break. The wrecking crew went swiftly to work and-there was no serious delay In the time of the passenger trains. No members of the train crew were Injured In either wreck. SCHOOL DIVISION.
