Suggestions for the Year.
Year' after year passes away; time
flies and It will not be a great while
till we are all In eternity. What
we do, we must do quickly. “Work
while it la called day; for the night
cometh when no man can work. 1
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to
do, do It with all thy might.” For
getting the things that are behind,
let ns press toward the mark for
the prise of the high calling of God
In Christ Jesus.” Let the year 1908
be a forward movement.
A Forward Movement in Personal
Effort.
“The fields are white unto harvest
and the laborers are few.” There
Is a vast amount of unoccupied ter
ritory lying all around ns; the sick
to be ministered unto; the neglectPd
and oppressed to be encoursged; tv
godless to be warned and lovingly
entreated; the‘weak to 1)0 strength
ened; and the entire community to
be <•• myel’ied. Looking back orm
the Held, wo see- much more tha
might have been accomplished ha!
we measured up to the posslblllrles
of the yoar. Let this year excel In
’gulag about doing good.”

New Orleans has Its share

Christian cltlsensblp, but she Is alive
to hed social Interests and the better
ment of her own unfortunate. Hence
the women physicians have open 1
a free clinic for women and children
adjacent to the tenement district.
All the physicians on the staff are
women and are nobly glvlt x of their
time, skill and talents to aid In the
alleviation of suffering, afflicted
debauched humanity within their
reach. While this Is not a factor of
any of our home mission operations
It Is nevertheless perfectly In accord
with the spirit of Home Missions.
Not In a long while have we noted
with more profound respect an effort
on the part of womankind than In
this clinic In the great city of New
Orleans and in due time this noble

During this month (January) New

Vaahti Home.
Wednesday was a great day at
the Vaahti Home. The membera of
the Missionary Institute of the Thom-
aavllle district consisting of the Pre
siding Elder and hla twenty-three
co-laborers In the gospel were In
vited by the Board of Director* to
lunch at the Home.
It was an inspiring sight to
that body of men of God marching
out under the leadership of their
gallant leader and wise counselor,
Rev. Ed. F. Cook.
These men brought face to face
with this Home, Its workers. Its
needs, its opportunities and looking
Into the faces of the twenty-six
girls now sheltered in the Home
canght a new vision of their Lord,
and for the first time realised the
great Importance and the Imperative
need of snch a Home.
Primitive work took a firm hold
on their hearts and consciences, and
each and every one resolved' with
God’s help to lend their prayers,
their sympathy, their cooperation in
upholding the Board of Directors In
this God given work.
Several Impressing speeches were
made, also earnest fervent prayers,
beseech'ng God that He would con
tinue to own, bless, and prosper the
work.
As Is the usual custom, where two
or three Methodist preachers are
gathered together there Is a col
lection In the midst of them. This
occasion was no exception to the gen
eral custom. This collection was
gratefully accepted and will be used
In finishing up the aming hall.
The Board of Directors have taken
on renewed hold In God. Know
that some of the rough places have
been made smooth and that some
obstacles have been removed by hav
ing the ministers of the district as
guests at the Vashtl Home. We
praise God for this opportunity.
Our Interest and prayers will at-
tend each of them to their home, and
ask that they come our way again.
...
Work Snspended.
The carpenters have made good
progress on the annex, have added
much to the comfort and convenience
of the Home.
The Board of Directors after due
consideration have suspended the
work until the demands that are
already upon It have been properly
adjusted, and the way offered
to go forward." And as this board
Is under the leadership of that great
wise counselor, who holds the uni
verse |n His hand, the marching
order will soon be given, “Walt on
the Lord, be of good courage, and
He will strengthen thine heart.
"Waiting on Him,” means marching
at a rapid rate to the completion of
this annex. Then on to greater
things!
