Contributions were solicited In
Thomasville yesterday for a home
for old and crippled railroad men.
The solicitor gave hta name as S. C.
Taylor, and before he left town he
had some seventy-five dollars on his
list, most of which was paid up.
Mr. Taylor says that be has been
authorised by the board of trustees
to solicit In Georgia, and that he
has worked several of the largest
cities, collecting about six hundred
dollars. It seems that the plans are
chiefly la charge of the railroad men,
and that the general public Is
Ing appealed to In only a limited
way. J. B. White of Trinity, N.
C.. Is put down an the president of
the board of trustees. Mr. Taylor
says that the home is to cost $50,
000 and that It will be built at some
place In the south, yet to be select
ed.
Mr. Taylor Is a young man of at
tractive personality, and though he
offered no credentials, his honesty
was not often questioned. He says
that he was formerly a passenger
flagman on the Southern railroad
and lived In Greensboro, N. C. He
announced his Intentldn of going
frojn- here to Quitman.
The cause le one that appeals to
a sympathetic public, and If It is
carried to a consummation. It ought
to prove an excellent chnlrty.
