The Christ LUe.
Let us choose a text (or the year
that will be an Incentive to higher
living. Let us make a resolution,
and try to keep It, that we will live
on a higher plane than last year.
Let us offer a prayer that the Holy
Spirit may Illuminate the'text and
give strength to our wills from day
to day. The highest ll(e Is that
which is nearest like Christ's In Its
purposes and Its deeds. Let us
therefore study life more closely
during this year, that we may qquare
our lives with His; to dare to be
true as he was true, to live as pure
ly as be lived, to love as unselfish
ly as he lived. All this will cost
self-sacrifice. It will necessitate the
elimination of some things we have
allowed ouraelves In the past, we
may have to say and do gome things
we have never done, It may make a
cleavage between us and some peo
ple who differ (rom us, It may
draw ua closer to some people we
have not cared (or before—yes, It
will mean exactly what Christ said
“If any man would come after me,
let blm deny himself, and take up
his cross, and follow me.” Are we
able to do It? St. Paul said, “I
can do all things through Christ
which strengthens me;” and
can have the same strength to obey
him. Are we willing?
“Our Homes.”
A great effort will be made to
gain 5,000 subscribers for “Our
Homes” this year. Let every mem
ber of the W. H. Mission Society
rally to the help of the editor and
agent. Every member should be a
subscriber, read the paper and re
commend its merits to others. The
editor will make It all you say of
It. She will do her part and has
every right to expect you to do
you re.
Let all make “a long pull,
strong pull, and a pull together”
and success will crown our efforts.
May God make “Our Homes" i
blessing to every subscriber.
To Mrs. R. P. Milam, we are In
debted for this, our Home Mission
Conference Song, which was adopted'
at the meeting of the Board. Hun-
derda of copies are being printed,
and will be distributed; let us fa
miliarise ourselves with the words
and the sentiment, and when sung
to the tune of "From Greenland's
Icy Mountains," may It reach from
shore to shore.
America for Christ.
We claim. our land for Jesus,
Its vales and towering hills,
Its cities full and hamlets.
Its brooks and gurgling rills,
We claim Its wealth for Jesus,
Its lowly poor we claim,
Ita native-born and alien—
Of every hue and name.
Around ua souls are dying.
They perish at our door;
The land Is full of sighing
And sin, from shore to shore.
Gladly we toll to save them.
From death to make them free,
For Hla whose life lie gave them
Far back at Cavalry.
New Editor of Leaflets.
Mrs. Ed F. Cook of Thomasville.
has been unanimously elected editor
of Leaflets and chairman of Litera
ture Committee for our General
Board. Our General Secretary*
writes that “Mrs. Cook has entered
upon the new duties with character
istic seal." We are more than de
lighted that our Board is to have
the benefit of Mrs. Cook’s conse
cration, talent and experience in
the Important work of the Litera
ry Board.
We are also delighted that the
Thomasville Auxiliary can claim
one of the Board members as one
of lta local members. Also delight
ed that a part of the “connectlonal
work” of the Board, the Vaahtl
Home, Is under the direction of
local members of this Auxiliary.
Theae are great opportunities If
rightly used of God.
Men Needed. '
If the church la to save the
men, she mutt learn to use their
strength. A successful - business
man ia the most effective worker
In bringing other men to repentance.
One hour each week given by--our
Christian business men to visiting
and praying among the unsaved
would go a long way toward solving
the problem.”
The Country.
The evangelization of the conn-
try la important because of the
great returns In proportion to the
Investment, and because of its rela
tion to the city.
Emerson says: "The city Is re
cruited from the country. The city
would have died out, rotted, and
exploded long-ago but that it was
reinforced from the fields. It Is
only the country which came to town
the day before yesterday that
city and court today.”
WASHINGTON LETTER.
John Xantz Writes of Sights and
Things in the Capital.
Dear Times-Enterprise:—I am in
the noted city of all that a man Is
looking for. It ia nice and warm
here and I have not yet had any use
for an overcoat.
The scenes of Uncle Sam's plans
of all our country combined Is the
history of a life time In the plan
ning of Nature. One notable ex
hibit here la that of Alaska. It Is
Just as natural as It is up there with
dog teams, Esquimaux and every
thing else. I looked at Uncle Sam's
plant for making money today. Tell
the boys not worry, he has plen
ty of It. Money by the carload.
My plans for the brine agitator

working out all right. I will know
more after another visit to the pa
